I was really disappointed with the Fukujuen Cafe. The matcha latte and the matcha they serve felt very watered down. It seemed like it was catered more to European or American tourists rather than matcha enthusiasts. It was just not what I expected. What made it worse is that I have tried almost all of their matcha powders and I make my own matcha lattes with them. The contrast between how good their powders are and how disappointing their café lattes were was really shocking. On the positive side, the staff were very nice and the view is one of the best for a cafe in Uji. Overall, I would give it a 2 out of 5.
View on GooglePeaceful matcha cafe with river views. Very friendly staff, food and drink was great. Could not believe how quiet the cafe was, deserves more customers. Well worth a visit!
View on GoogleI enjoyed a matcha set (a cup of ice tea and two sweets) and a matcha flavored ice cream. The place is self serviced, so you need to wait for your order near the register and take them with you whether to the first or the second floor, the second floor is recommended for the views. The owner is very energetic and friendly, he would use a translator to speak with you if you can’t speak Japanese and want to talk with him. I visited here at the end (or just past the end) of the Sakura season, if you come here on Sakura season or 紅葉 season the experience might be great! Let’s not forget for those want to try matcha making, it appears to be offering lessons in Japanese, and there’s a tiny exhibition on matcha making on the second floor, please check it out as well.
View on GoogleGood for dessert and tea, all food come with very nice presentation. Matcha Soba smells good but the texture was average.
View on GoogleThia is located in Uji, the source of Japanese tea and the place where Uji tea culture has been handed down from generation to generation. Across the scenic Asagiri Bridge and Nakanoshima Island in the clear waters of the Uji River, there are two stores: the Ujicha Kobo on the right bank, and the Ujicha Tei on the left bank.
