We had such a wonderful experience at the Uji Community Center! We came to learn about matcha and how it’s traditionally ground, and it exceeded our expectations. Not only did we get to grind the matcha ourselves — which was such a unique, hands-on experience — but we also learned about the rich history behind matcha and its cultural significance. The class was incredibly interactive, engaging, and informative. The teacher was absolutely amazing — knowledgeable, patient, and clearly passionate about sharing this tradition. As an added bonus, our ticket also gave us free access to the museum, which made the experience even more worthwhile. And during the summer heat, we were very grateful for the excellent air conditioning! Highly recommend this experience to anyone visiting Uji and wanting a deeper appreciation for matcha.

One of the best museums I’ve ever been to. Each exhibit is well thought out and interactive and BEAUTIFUL. I highly recommend doing the matcha workshop to get a hands on experience in addition to seeing the museum. The instructors are very knowledgeable and the lab where we grind the matcha is reminiscent of one of my chemistry labs in college. The museum’s animated video was extremely well done and beautifully tells the story of how matcha is made. Gift shop is stacked with sweets and souvenirs, spent around ¥9,000 on the gift shop alone.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Chazuna is a modern and beautifully designed cultural space in Uji that offers a great introduction to the history and production of Japanese tea. The exhibits are interactive and easy to understand, making it enjoyable even for those who are not deeply familiar with tea culture. The matcha-making experience is a highlight, giving you the chance to actively participate and appreciate the craftsmanship behind Uji tea. The facilities are clean, well organised, and thoughtfully laid out, creating a relaxed and educational visit. It’s also conveniently located near other attractions in Uji, making it a great stop when exploring the area. Overall, it’s a well-presented and engaging experience that blends learning with hands-on activity.

The Mog Champ sends his regards. Learning about Uji matcha history and how it spread around the world was quite interesting, especially with all the different kind of tea leaves they have. We had the matcha making experience which was fun since we could drink our own matcha. Thanks for the experience, Chazuna team! Mogliest Regards, Your Mog Champ

Best to book tickets online. I managed to buy a ticket on the morning of. The experience at Chazuna was great. The lecturers were so sweet and lovely, Hisae taught us. Leaving the experience, I definitely learned a lot and have more appreciation of the people that work behind the scenes in the tea industry. I definitely enjoyed learning and finding more about the different leaves, teas, production etc. I only wish we could keep the leftover matcha though that we grinded up.
