大山崎町歴史資料館Oyamazaki Town Historical Museum
As there are other visitors at the entrance and inside the museum, please keep quiet. Photography and video recording have been prohibited since the museum opened, under an agreement with the owners (because of the possibility of secondary use). We exhibit/explain the history of Oyamazaki Town from ancient times to the early modern period. A full-size model of “Tai-an,” the tea room famous for its association with Sen no Rikyu. A model of Yamazaki Bridge (“Yamazaki-tsu”), said to have been built by Gyoki. Panel explanations of Hashiba Hideyoshi’s Chugoku Ogaeshi, famous in connection with the Battle of Tennozan, and more. It's a small town old museum with a couple of nice items, everything is in Japanese. The people working there are very nice, tried to communicate and offered a booklet in English about some of the artifacts. Photos and cellphones are not allowed, I suggest they change this rule so people can translate the descriptions properly, it would have been a reacher experience if I could've translated.

View on GooglePhotography was prohibited inside. Outside was a poster for Toyotomi Brothers! Apparently, only the armor (replica) said to have been used by Toyotomi Hideyoshi may be photographed. Is the bamboo grove at the entrance an allusion to Ogurusu, where Mitsuhide was killed? A replica of Tai-an (Myoki-an), said to have been built by Sen no Rikyu. Smaller than I expected. Just a 2-tatami room, an adjoining room (1 tatami), a tokonoma alcove, and a preparation area. It seemed like a small world existed in this space alone. You can also get a manhole card.
View on GoogleIf you have a ticket or receipt from Oyamazaki Art Museum, they reduce the price from 200 yen to 150 yen. Go up to the 2nd floor to buy your ticket. (I’ve also heard of a 100 yen discount, though…?) The terrain and the battle routes of Toyotomi Hideyoshi and Akechi Mitsuhide are displayed on illuminated panels, making them easy to understand. There are ancient pottery pieces, a recreation of Sen no Rikyu’s tea room (it’s hard to see inside), and so on, but the space is only as large as it looks. My impression was, general admission costs as much as 200 yen…? Toilets are only on the 1st floor.
