In "Kyoto Miyama," a mountain village that retains the rich, original landscape of old Japan, we engage in self-sufficient living—including agriculture, hunting, gathering, livestock, and architecture—while providing [Accommodation, Restaurant, Outdoor/Nature Experiences, and Game Meat Sales]. We grow white rice and ancient rice in farmland blessed with a climate of significant temperature variation and the clear waters of the Miyama River. Furthermore, nearly 100 types of vegetables and herbs throughout the year, and all the agricultural produce essential for a rich dining table, are grown without any chemical fertilizers, using compost produced through regional or in-house cycles, also known as circular farming. Also, Miyama, which is about 96% forest, is home to many animals. The staff at Tagoto-sha hold hunting licenses, and mainly their winter livelihood...

We came here for petite canyoning experience with two kids aged four and two. Yuki-san was our guide for the day and was very friendly and warm. He guided us from intro to Tautasha to how to catch fishes with nets. Knowing the children’s age, he proposed some activities suitable for them, but my kids were very interested in river floating. After hearing my son wanted to play by the river and catch fishes, he brought out five big blue nets, hopefully to bring back some fishes. He showed us patiently how to float down the river and patiently encouraged my son join in as he was a little scared. Yuki-san also taught us two tactics to catch the river fishes, and helped my son caught some fish for lunch as the fishes were too fast for my son to catch. Kids had great time in the nature today. Btw, the restaurant food were surprisingly good!!

We arrived earlier than our 13:00 reservation, so we wandered around the property. There were a couple of friendly dogs, one more reserved and another barker chained up out of the. At the rear was a densely populated duck pond. The dining space was warm and welcoming. On the terrace a group were barbecuing their lunch. My companion really enjoyed his venison sausages and three types of freshly baked bread. My pizza was wholesome but not very distinctive. Seasoning with the available homemade chili condiments was an excellent idea. The salad was very interesting. When we went to pay in the office building, some recently harvested millet and other produce was awaiting further processing. It was a great place for lunch.

Very friendly staff. Great place for individuals or company trip to do snow hiking or team building events in Kyoto. Food seems to be organically grown. Fresh meat from mountain animals are used too. The stove is very hot and warm. Staff and guides could easily manuever around the snowy mountains despite everywhere looking alike. Very easy to get lost on such mountains so having a reliable guide is a must. About 2.5-3 hours bus ride from Osaka.
