Takemuratei is a 50-year-old cafeteria at the Mukomachi Velodrome. The Mukomachi specialty, Horumon Udon, features thin udon noodles in a clear soup topped with generously seasoned and carefully prepared beef lung. The aroma of sesame oil adds depth and richness to the broth. At 650 yen, it is reasonably priced. Due to Kyoto Prefecture's policies, the velodrome is quite aged and retains a Showa-era feel, but the taste is undeniable. There are plans to renovate the entire facility, so I highly recommend trying it while you still can.

First visit to Mukomachi Velodrome! Visited with a friend and ordered the famous Horumon Udon. I was asked if I wanted thin or thick noodles, so I chose thick. According to online info, it's domestic beef lung... probably my first time eating it! It was soft with a unique texture that's hard to describe, but it was delicious 😁 The broth is slightly sweet, absolutely exquisite, and a perfect match... so good... and it's cheap with plenty of offal, which makes me happy. The owner, who was working alone, was very soft-spoken and apologized many times for the wait, but I didn't feel like I was waiting at all!! There was an autograph from Murakami inside! And surprisingly, a regular customer was paying on credit 🤣 The fact that you can still pay on credit in this day and age shows the owner's kindness. If I have the chance to come to Mukomachi Velodrome again, I definitely want to eat here again!

A cafeteria with a nostalgic Showa-era atmosphere. I had the oden (egg and radish) and the signature Horumon Udon with thin noodles. The oden, despite its light color, is well-seasoned and delicious. The main dish, Horumon Udon, had tender offal and a sweet, gentle broth. You can come here just to eat, even if you aren't into bicycle racing.
