This restaurant serves some of the best tempura I’ve ever had. We had the omakase course, it’s a little on the pricey side, but it’s worth the money for the quality of tempura and the overall experience. There were multiple courses, beginning with a cucumber salad, multiple courses of tempura, a tendon, and ended with dessert. The tempura is lightly battered and served fresh, they give you options to dip in sauce or to eat with a fresh squeeze of lemon and salt. If you want to have an omakase experience and don’t love raw fish, this is a great option.
View on GoogleFood is okay- the restaurant serves good tempura but the course is JPY 14k but only mainly vegetables are served (only 2 shrimps, 2 squids, eel and a fish). The whole meal is completed within 45 minutes for unknown reason, with no other guests at all. They just want you to complete the meal as soon as possible. But there are much better tempura restaurants out there in Japan, dont need to spend money here.
View on GoogleOverall, this was a disappointing meal. The food was decent, but wasn’t at the level I’d expect for the price point. Tabelog of 3.53 feels accurate. Some pieces were a hair overcooked and a bit greasy. The pace was far too fast and the service haphazard. The latter leading to two problems: 1. The vegetarian diner in our group was served tempura with fish in it for the rice course. An apology and offer to remake the dish was offered. We were also not charged the vegetarian surcharge but it’s unclear if it’s because of this, they forgot, or that we had the most expensive menu. 2. We ordered a bottle of sake on the second last course and were served 25% of it with the bottle left in another room. Our glasses sat empty and were eventually cleared. The bill came and the full bottle was on it. When we raised the issue they expected us to just take the bottle home instead of taking it off the bill. There were some awkward exchanges and possibly some misunderstandings, but their final expectation was that we pay for two individual servings (53% of the bottle) and take the bottle with us. It was too awkward to do anything but pay (we left the bottle) and the whole experience really tainted the meal.
View on GoogleHad full course with the family! It’s the best tempura set we all had! Everyone enjoys the meal and will be very happy to visit again if we come back to Kyoto.
