Japanese restaurant

Okara House is located in a place surrounded by world heritage sites. Especially since it is right in the middle of Ichijo Street connecting Myoshin-ji North Gate and Ninna-ji, please stop by for a lunch break. Regular holidays are Sundays, Mondays, and Tuesdays, but there are days when we are open during consecutive holidays or because we are feeling motivated. We will try to announce it on the calendar posted in front of the store at least 1 month in advance. We would appreciate it if you could confirm by phone. Sometimes we are not near the phone, so we hope you can feel free to call back several times. We want to cook the seasonal dishes that come with the daily set meal, focusing on organic vegetables harvested in the suburbs of Kyoto, beans, dried foods, seaweed, etc., as simply as possible...

Okara is tofu dregs that remain after pureed soybeans are filtered in the production of tofu, and it is one of my favorite food. However, it’s quite rare to be main dish. This hard-to-find unique diner evokes the potential of okara very well. Last but not least, their service and Five-grain rice is brilliant!

Very kind owner and lady working here who explained what the dishes were. Rolled in from doing the temple exploration while being very hungry. Fell in love with the Daikon. The meal was very filling and everything together was a very big meal. The price was also very good and the seating was cute cafe style. No wifi though.

Very delicious vegetarian lunch served by a sweet lady running the restaurant! We had the croquette lunch set which was diverse and filling. 5-min walk from Ninnan-ji and close to the tram for those looking to visit Arashiyama after

There were two ladies and they were so friendly and they showed the exact Japanese hospitality I was hoping to see. I could say only a few things in Japanese, they were happy to see me trying, they have treated me with a cake and a rice ball. I loved it so much, if I lived in Kyoto, I would visit them just to feel the comforting atmosphere. Thanks you so much!

We stumbled upon this place for lunch after visiting some of the temples nearby. It definitely seemed like a traditional, family owned establishment, with one woman cooking and preparing the food in the front, and a tatami room to dine in, which we loved! We tried the fried okra and yuba meals and all of the food was delicious. The owner was lovely and we thoroughly enjoyed our lunch here.
