I was looking for a special Japanese beef restaurant because typical yakiniku or teppanyaki are no longer that exciting to me. To my surprise, I found this amazing spot in Kyoto! You must book in advance either online or by phone — thankfully, our Japanese friend helped us call and we got a reservation right away. I didn’t order a set menu because I really wanted to try their Omi steak. I ordered a 180g tenderloin; I actually wanted a bigger portion, but that wasn’t an option. We didn’t order anything else apart from one glass of wine. Watching the chef at work was fascinating — he prepared our steaks with effortless grace, trimming the meat slightly before cooking. The presentation was simple but elegant. When he placed the beef in front of us and sliced it into bite‑sized pieces, the first bite instantly told me this was the best steak I’ve ever had. The flavor was far beyond what you get from high‑end teppanyaki or regular yakiniku places. Even the best supermarket wagyu wouldn’t come close to this taste! Some people might say the price is on the high side or think they can replicate it at home — but as a true steak lover, we can tell the cooking method and flavor are on another level. We actually finished our dinner quite quickly, and the restaurant closes at 9 p.m. This place is also suitable for families or small gatherings with friends, though you shouldn’t expect to stay for a long, slow two‑hour meal. If you genuinely love steak and don’t mind paying for quality, this is absolutely a must‑try restaurant in Kyoto!

This is simply the best steak I ate in my life. The place is far from Kyoto city center, but it is definitely worth it. Also, I really recommend their set options, because everything on the set was also incredible.

An absolute top class restaurant. Kuishinbo Yamanaka Steakhouse is outstanding in every way, starting with the exceptionally high quality meat, perfectly prepared and of the finest taste. You can immediately tell that everything here is made with passion and great skill. What makes it even more special is the warm family run atmosphere. Extremely friendly, attentive and professional. You instantly feel welcome and well taken care of. The restaurant is also very clean and well maintained which makes the whole experience even more pleasant. If you value excellent food, attentive service and a truly authentic family atmosphere, this is the place to go. Definitely worth a visit, highly recommended. One of the best dining experiences we had in Japan. The staff are lovely and attentive. The head chef cooks the steak right in front of you. The steak is amazing, it is the best cut of beef we have ever had. It is so flavourful and absolutely melts in your mouth. You know it is a top quality cut of beef when you look at the precooked steak. The first bite confirms this. The set menue was great and you leave full and satisfied. Would recommend.

We had the most amazing Wagyu at Kuishinbo Yamanakaya easily the best we’ve ever had! Every single thing that came to the table was delicious. The owners were so kind and sweet, they made the experience even more special. The quality of the meat was incredible truly a once in a lifetime experience. If we could we’d give 6 stars, but 5 is the maximum!
