I booked a reservation for three people specifically hoping to try the chicken ovaries, but unfortunately they were sold out by the time we arrived, which was a bit disappointing. That said, the restaurant itself was very pleasant. It was quiet with a great atmosphere, making it a comfortable place to dine. The staff were friendly, attentive, and spoke English, which made the experience easy and welcoming. Service was excellent — each dish came out quickly, and there was a generous amount of food overall. The menu focused mostly on chicken, and all of the dishes we tried were very good. With the base menu, each person is required to order one drink, but this wasn’t an issue as the drink selection was excellent. Every drink we ordered was delicious. I’m docking one star only because I’ve had better yakitori at some smaller, more casual spots I’ve stumbled upon elsewhere. Still, this is a solid choice with great service, atmosphere, and quality food.

The Yakitori here was far beyond my expectations. The chef successfully brought out the perfect crispness and juiciness in the chicken by precisely controlling the temperature. The chicken shoulder lighted up my taste buds, but sadly I didn’t find it on the extra adding menu. I’m already looking forward to visiting again. Another thing is that I really like those plates with cute kitties on them. 🐈

Good food simply can make people feel emotional! It was probably the best meal that I had in Kyoto, also the service was impeccable. Not a huge drinking menu but I didn’t have any issue because I came for the chicken. I didn’t expect that I would be obsessed with the chicken neck, that was simply my fav of the night

Amazing food, we got the set course + 2 drinks + 1 addon skewer and were completely stuffed!!! Fantastic service and atmosphere that's foreigners friendly. Would visit again and highly recommended!

It's been two years since my visit to Kuchibashi Modern in Kyoto, and honestly, I still miss this place. While it's certainly on the pricier side for yakitori in the Kansai region, it's not just a meal – it's an experience. From the moment you step in, you can tell this isn't your average yakitori joint. The quality of every skewer is exceptional, a true testament to their craft. If you're looking to treat yourself to one of the best yakitori experiences Kyoto has to offer, Kuchibashi Modern is absolutely worth the splurge. It's a culinary memory that truly sticks with you.
