Small exhibition dedicated to artifacts belonging to Oda Nobunaga and his retainers, linked to the historical events happened at this temple. The place sits just outside of the main touristic areas, so it's incredibly quiet and enjoyable, I've been alone in the room for most of my visit. The scrolls and sword blades displayed here are gorgeous! If you don't speak Japanese, you'll be given a tablet with information about the objects you are looking at, and you can easily swipe through the list while walking around, very convenient. But the best part is the lady at the desk! She was SO sweet. She took the time to explain in a great English the details of some replicas and the story of Nobunaga's betrayal at the temple, and she offered to take pictures of me with a sword, since I was traveling alone. My phone is a bit complicated to use, so it led to some pretty funny interactions! She even told me the history of her family (it's relevant to the museum, I swear! It was really surprising, I learned something that's hard to find on history books!). I ended up asking her to sign my travel journal, she's awesome!! Thank you so much!
View on GoogleThis is the Honnoji Temple Museum, which houses famous samurai swords from the olden days. Admission fee was quite steep for just one floor of exhibition, so we decided to skip itand just wander around the compounds as there were some activities happening at the main temple.
