Eating here was a real highlight and pleasure. The kind and lovely lady who owns the place welcomed us and made us feel very comfortable. It wasn't busy yet so she shared interesting stories with us. Her staff were kind too. We had the house style okonomiyaki and a simpler bacon one too. They were both super delicious. The ingredients were fresh and tasty. Free flow condiments was a bonus we appreciated. Seeing them being fried and helping with flipping them was fun too. Very reasonable prices for the dishes and drinks. We would definitely visit again.

Such a wonderful restaurant with an amazing dining experience! They taught us how to make okonomiyaki step-by-step, and the owner and staff even let us flip it and mix the ingredients ourselves, which was so much fun. Personally, I prefer lighter flavors, so it was a tiny bit salty for my taste. But overall, dining here gave me some of the best memories of my trip to Japan. Wishing the owner and team great health and happiness!

🔥🥢 Kyoto Comfort Food That Sizzles—Is This the Okonomiyaki Spot You’ve Been Looking For? Tucked into the food scene of Kyoto, we stumbled upon Dainoji—a cozy spot dedicated to one of Japan’s most satisfying comfort foods: Okonomiyaki. 🥢 The Concept: Casual, Interactive Comfort Dining Dainoji focuses on okonomiyaki, often called a “Japanese savory pancake,” but it’s so much more than that. It’s a mix of cabbage, batter, and your choice of ingredients—grilled fresh on a hot plate right in front of you. This style of dining is: • Interactive • Relaxed • Deeply rooted in Japanese food culture It’s less about formality and more about enjoying the moment while your food sizzles. 🍽️ The Experience From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere felt local, casual, and welcoming—the kind of place where both tourists and locals can feel comfortable. The highlight? Watching the okonomiyaki being prepared on the hot griddle. There’s something satisfying about: • The sound of it sizzling • The aroma filling the space • The anticipation building with each flip The flavors were rich, savory, and comforting—exactly what you’d want after a long day exploring Kyoto. 🤓 Fun Facts • “Okonomiyaki” roughly means “grill what you like” • It’s especially popular in Osaka and Hiroshima—but loved across Japan • Each region has its own style and variation ✅ Pros • Authentic Japanese comfort food experience • Fun, interactive cooking style • Cozy, local atmosphere • Great for casual meals with friends ⚠️ Cons • Can get busy during peak hours • Smoky/grill atmosphere (you may leave smelling like dinner!) • Limited space typical of local eateries 💡 Pro Tips • Go early or off-peak to avoid waiting • Wear something you don’t mind picking up a bit of grill aroma • Try different toppings to customize your okonomiyaki • Great for sharing and trying multiple variations Dainoji isn’t about luxury—it’s about authentic, comforting, sizzling satisfaction. The kind of place where food feels alive, and the experience is just as memorable as the flavors. In Kyoto, where tradition runs deep, sometimes the best memories come from a hot plate, simple ingredients, and the sound of something delicious sizzling. 🔥🥢✨ 👇 If you love interactive dining, leave a reaction 🔥🥞🍴

Wow! I was blown away by this gem right outside of the golden temple. The food was incredible! Flavorful, buttery noodles and wagyu curry rice are too good to stop eating. I devoured everything I ordered and loved seeing my gluten free wife indulge in a celiac-safe okonomiyaki. She absolutely loved the food as well and the staff here were friendly and treated each guest as a close friend.
