Kyoto | Cantonese Cuisine Housen | Google Review (English) Housen in Kyoto is one of the best Cantonese meals I’ve had in Japan. The flavors were clean, elegant, and full of balance — the kind of dishes that make you say “wow…すごい.” The dim sum and seafood were especially delicious. The service was calm and polite, creating a relaxed atmosphere. It’s the perfect place for a refined but cozy Chinese meal in Kyoto. Highly recommended if you love classic Cantonese cooking.
View on GoogleGreat place for the Kyoto style Chinese food with menu items hailing from yesteryears. Good food and nice homey atmosphere. Their special noodles is a surprise and excellent.
View on GoogleBeen working through Tabelog’s Top 100 Chinese restaurants in Kyoto so had to try this local institution. Definitely ordered the famous mustard soba, sweet and sour pork and harumaki. The mustard soba wasn’t bad but not exactly to my taste. The hot mustard was a bit strong and made the dish somewhat one note. The sweet and sour was seasoned well but wasn’t crispy and neither was the harumaki which was a bit disappointing. Not sure if it was because I came towards the end of the night or not, but the fried items just didn’t feel fresh. As noted in other reviews, the food comes out super quick, but I’d trade a few more minutes for higher quality execution. Based on my experience, I’d come back if I was in the area and needed a quick meal, but definitely not worth lining up or going out of the way for.
View on GoogleUnbelievably tasty food. We got the spring rolls, shrimp and chicken soba with mustard sauce, egg soup, and sweet and sour chicken. Each bite was phenomenal and I wish we could eat here every week.
