We ordered the same marbled beef, but we found the meat were not prepared in the same way. One was thinner slices and one was thicker. The thinner one was much tender, while the thicker was a bit more chewy and fattening. Anyway, the price was good for a trial. Don't go too early, it seemed busier from 12nn, we returned at about 1pm, we got a table easily.

Another tourist who came off the scenic railway - spotted a map on the walk to the JR station that had a couple places nearby which included this restaurant. Popped in for an early lunch @ 11:30 and was seated immediately, lovely interior that was exactly what I needed after a few hours in the sun. Food was good, excellent Hamburg steak that was high quality and very reasonably priced. Set menu sides were great, the soup especially. I'm indifferent to the dish itself with its typical accompaniments, boiled carrots and broccoli are just okay. The potato wedges were a welcome addition although you are given a handful. I had the black pepper version that's served with demi-glaze sauce, my only gripe would be that I'd like more sauce but this is a personal preference! Overall I highly recommend this establishment, the staff are fantastic and the food is easily palatable and tasty.

Most travelers heading to Umahori JR Station after taking the Arashiyama Locomotive might pass by this restaurant, assuming it’s just another local spot with nothing special to offer. But by doing so, you could be missing out on a hidden gem with great food and a unique atmosphere! The food here is delicious, with the recommended ハンバーグ (hamburg steak) standing out as a must-try dish. It comes with two sauce options, and while I only tried the Original Sauce—a rich tomato-based flavor—I’d suggest trying the Homemade Sauce as well, especially if this is your rare visit to 亀岡 while in Kyoto. Speaking of atmosphere, this restaurant has hosted many celebrities, including NHK Kyoto hosts. Their photos with the chef and autographs are proudly displayed, adding a touch of charm and history to the place. A note to future diners: the restaurant opens at 11 AM, but due to being short-staffed, service might be a bit slower than usual. However, it’s manageable—when I visited, I entered at 11 and finished my meal around 11:30. Your experience may vary, but isn’t taking a moment away from the traveling crowds to enjoy quality time in Japan what most of us are looking for? I thoroughly enjoyed my visit and hope to return with family and friends next time. Enjoy your meal here—it’s worth the stop!

Kudos to the lady owner who handles the service, drinks and food by herself. We enjoyed the food and time there. She takes care of your meal and even come out to make sure you have access to bathroom.

What a hidden gem! Stumbled upon this place randomly while waiting for a train to arashiyama station. For ¥2475, we got the wagyu set meal, which came with rice, miso soup, and sauce, alongside some veggies. The wagyu was incredibly juicy and tender, melting like butter in my mouth. Probably some of the best meat I’ve ever had and definitely the best value I’ve ever had in terms of steak. We also got the Hamburg steak meal, which was extremely solid too as it was one of their specialty items. The sauce paired perfectly with the beef, and the bowl of rice went along well too. The service was good, however, there is only one person cooking so if you are in a rush you might not be able to get certain items in time. Staff were all very kind and accommodating. If I have the chance, I will definitely be coming back here. Definitely recommend this place to anybody looking for a meal with great value.
