Hot pot restaurant

You can enjoy dishes using ingredients unique to this area and the Fukuchiyama specialty "Kamo Suki" (duck hot pot) with local Kujo green onions. We also have a selection of carefully chosen sake and drinks. While walk-ins are possible, we would appreciate it if you could make a reservation. Please note that if we are full, you cannot enter until a seat becomes available. As parking is limited, we do not allow waiting at the store. Set meals are only available during lunch time. There are no set meals during dinner time. In the attached marche, there are locally grown vegetables, sweets, ingredients and seasonings used in the restaurant, organic food...

A must eat meal and great experience in Fukushiyama. We had the duck hot pot. The duck and duck dumplings are real tender. The spring onion is fresh too and goes perfect with the meat. The service was wonderful. Highly recommended.

Architecture 5-stars, Food 4 stars I came for lunch. They had three set meals, of which the seasonal vegetable set was sold out, leaving no non-meat options for the other two (fried chicken set and chicken and egg rice bowl set). I ended up ordering the fried chicken set (using local chicken), which was quite a lot of food (two very large pieces of fried chicken). The side salad and soup were the highlights for me. From reading other reviews, it appears that meal sell out with frequency. The architecture alone is worth the visit, as the restaurant operates in a former merchant's home (very wealthy sake merchant I heard). There are multiple floors, a café space with what looks like library (that I think doubles as a bar in the evening - probably a really great place for a drink), and a maze of hallways that take you to your dining area (of which there are a few different areas to eat - which is helpful during COVID, I came here in March, 2021). If I could ensure which meal I'd be able to order, I would definitely come again. I also couldn't believe how much food you got for the price (I think my meal was only about 1,000 yen).

We had duck hotpot (kamo Suki) for lunch (reserved through the hotel we stayed at). From the exterior, Yanagimachi (柳町) is an unassuming machiya, with no signboard. It is also located on a smaller road away from the main road. It is about 15 to 18 min walk from the train station. On the first floor you are immediately greeted by it's beautifully decorated bar and cafe. For lunch, change to the provided slippers and head upstairs. The duck has a slight gamey taste (as it should). The meat is smooth with some fats. The meat ball is superb and you can order more as desired. The Japanese spring onion is also specially sourced from Kyoto. Kyoto kujo negi (京都九条ネギ) is predominantly green rather than white and it's sweet. And you have a mountain of it. Together, the duck meat, meat ball and negi is simply harmonious. Dip them into the golden-brown soup base (there are optimal ways to cook) and you have a visually pleasing and mouth watering filling lunch. Add rice or udon if you need something more filling but you might not need the carbs.
