Today I felt like soaking up plenty of sunshine for the first time in a while… With that in mind, I took a short drive along Prefectural Road No. 3 (Sapporo–Yubari Line)🎶🚗💨🎶 Turn right onto a small road just before entering central Yuni and you get into gently hilly terrain, or rather a mountain road, and the climb begins. On the left is a cemetery, and once you pass it you're just about at the destination. 🏔️🏔️🏔️Fushimidai Observatory🏔️🏔️🏔️ Since it's generally the off-season, the parking lot🅿️ obviously wasn't cleared of snow, but there was enough space to pull the car over, so I parked there. I plowed through a snowfield without a single footprint like an idiot, wading through the snow toward the observatory's gazebo lol (sweat) Made it♪ Below me lay Yuni's farmland, buried in pure white snow. Far in the distance I was supposed to see snow-capped Mt. Yubari… supposed to, but……… Unfortunately the distance was hazy, so I couldn't see Mt. Yubari; all I could see were the nearer mountains… er, I mean, just those. Mt. Yubari is such a cool mountain that it's even nicknamed the 「Yubari Matterhorn」 for its sharp peak! Too bad⤵️ Wading through the snow is a bit tough, but once you get there, the view is more open than in summer since the trees have no leaves♪ If you bring some tea-time gear, quickly clear the snow off the gazebo bench and have a coffee, that might be the best ( ´∀` )☕♪ ………Late April 2026 Revisited after four years. Last time I came solo wading through snow, but this time my wife came along and it was spring, so it was an easy approach♪ That day was clear, plus there was no yellow dust from the continent or PM2.5, so I figured the view would be far-reaching, and when I stopped by I could see it perfectly♪ 【Yubari Matterhorn】 The mountain, dazzling with lingering snow, stood out against the blue sky (´∀`∩)↑age↑
View on GoogleIt's on the way to Yunni no Yu after passing the cemetery~. The observatory is covered with gravel. There's a public toilet too, and you can leisurely enjoy the view, but... If you walk about 100 meters along the road toward Yunni no Yu, there's an open spot. From there you can see central Yuni and Mt. Yubari more beautifully than from the observatory. I'll upload 2 photos from my visits in early spring and September 2022. There isn't much traffic, but please be careful when taking photos.
View on GoogleGreat location, and perfect for getting to Yunni no Yu and Yuni Garden, so it's a nice stop on a date too!
View on GoogleSince it's not in the city, I don't think you can expect a night view. ( ̄(工) ̄)
View on GoogleA large gravel parking lot. Unfortunately the view wasn't good. I don't think the location itself is bad, but trees and branches were in the way, so I could only see parts of it.
