Nothing really to see here
View on GoogleI know absolutely nothing about "Mitsubishi Oyubari Railway," but it caught my interest on Google Maps, so I visited. Apparently this is the former site of Mitsubishi Oyubari Railway's Minami-Oyubari Station, and railway vehicles, buses, and other things that presumably operated back then are preserved and displayed on the grounds. However, it seems 1 preserved railway vehicle (a passenger carriage, perhaps?) suddenly overturned. As of my visit (August 29, 2026), that vehicle is covered with a blue tarp, and you cannot look inside. Apparently the preservation group is thinking of restoring the overturned vehicle… but honestly, I don't know when that would happen or whether restoration is even possible. By the way… this is normally supposed to be a place with few people. Just between us, during this visit someone was doing some mysterious filming on the grounds… honestly it felt awkward, so I just took photos and quickly left()
View on GoogleI visited looking forward to the preserved Mitsubishi Oyubari Railway vehicles. Unfortunately, Oha 1 reportedly overturned in February of Reiwa 7. For many years, thanks to everyone in the preservation society, we could view it in good condition, so it is deeply unfortunate that this happened. It was probably covered in the news initially, but I haven't heard about it lately, so I'm posting photos.
View on GoogleThe precious relic had overturned. The bankrupt town is in the sad position of being unable to do anything. It really makes you realize how important elections are.
View on GoogleVisited in June 2025. There are no individual descriptions of the displayed vehicles, just 1 sign saying "Former Minami-Oyubari Station…vehicle preservation site," making it a rather bare display. The preserved vehicle unfortunately remains overturned, but on the other hand, you can see the underside structure of the passenger carriage. Besides passenger carriages, there are coal cars, a snowplow vehicle, buses, and so on. Incidentally, the coal cars differ in shape from those I saw in Kyushu's Chikuho coalfield. It seems about 20~30 cars can park in the former station forecourt, but nearby there are only a few buildings that look like ruins? ?, and no toilets, vending machines, or the like.
