Small but very informative! This museum has 4 floors of the towns history, from the Joman era (stone age) to modern day. Should definitely be on anyone's list of places to visit if your a history, natural history, or geology buff.

We went as a family of three on 9/1. It's just under a 30-minute walk from Yoichi Station, so it's a nice distance to walk while taking in the town along the way. Not only Yoichi's fisheries, but also artifacts from the Jomon period are on display, and you can feel the depth of this area's history. When we asked the female staff member (a curator?) a question, she looked it up and answered carefully. We learned lots of things we didn't know, and it was a museum where we could spend time comfortably. There's a rest area inside, and we were also able to have free drinks and snacks.

The Yoichi Fisheries Museum is a museum in Yoichi Town, Hokkaido, that introduces the history and culture of the fishing industry. Here you can learn about the development of local fisheries, traditional fishing methods, and the importance of marine resources. The exhibits include a wealth of traditional fishing gear, boats, and fisheries-related materials, giving visitors a close-up feel for the history of fishing. There are also exhibits on local marine life, offering an opportunity to think about protecting the natural environment. It's a valuable place for gaining a deep understanding of the region's culture and industry, and is loved not only by tourists but also by locals. It's an attractive spot where you can learn about Yoichi's bountiful sea and the efforts of the people who support it.
