Early afternoon on a summer weekday, while heading from Hakodate to Sapporo via Esashi and wondering what to do for lunch, I found a place called Nabe-san Shokudo in Kumaishi, Yakumo. It seems to open until 2 in the afternoon, except Sundays and public holidays. I visited after 1:30 p.m. There were two groups of customers inside. The restaurant has counter seats and a raised floor seating area . I ordered “Ankake Chuka Soba.” I thought I was ordering “Ankake Yakisoba,” but looking closely, the dish was named Ankake Chuka Soba. I thought, “Oh!” but waited anyway, and the lady owner brought it over. On a flat plate, the noodles were covered with a soy-sauce-flavored thick sauce containing pork belly, squid, Chinese cabbage, wood ear mushrooms, onions, and kamaboko. The noodles were Chinese-style noodles but didn't seem to be fried. The seasoning was a little strong, and it was a delicious, substantial dish. The portion was generous, too; these days, 800 yen for this is cheap. My companion ordered the Shogayaki Teishoku. Priced at 1000 yen, it had thinly sliced pork belly cooked with ginger on a plate with raw vegetables. Spinach with sesame dressing, pickles, rice, and miso soup. It was a delicious Shogayaki Teishoku with plenty of food.
View on GoogleOrdered Ebi-ju for 950 yen+a large portion for 100 yen (2026.4). The springy fried shrimp were delicious. Plenty of rice, too, so I was satisfied. The whole menu is cheap, though. You don't see prices like 550 yen for fried rice much these days.
View on GoogleWhile heading toward Otaru after going around Hokkaido's westernmost tip, I got hungry, found this place on Google map, and went in. The Yasai Itame Teishoku was delicious~. It was fairly busy at lunchtime, but by the time we left, it was already closed. Ah, glad we made it in time.
View on GoogleAround here, the only other dining options are basically sushi restaurants, so with so few choices, this place is much appreciated. It was also inexpensive with generous portions. The seasoning was gentle, too. I'll definitely return.
View on GoogleWent around 13:30 on a weekday. The noren curtain was out, so I went in, but nobody was inside and I felt uneasy. When I called out, they said it was still okay, which was a relief. There are few places to eat around here, so if you miss out, you're basically left with convenience stores. I didn't know what was recommended, so I checked reviews and chose Tenju. Looking at the menu, there are lots of other tasty-looking dishes, too. Under the 4 shrimp tempura were sweet potato and eggplant tempura, making for quite a substantial portion. With pickles, octopus and konnyaku in vinegared miso dressing, and miso soup, ¥950 is fairly cheap. It's a shame this isn't somewhere I can easily visit often. I'd like to come again if I get the chance.
