Based on their menu, you can either have ramen in salt and soy sauce base. It's delicious and very nice for the cold weather.

We didn't get to go there the last time we were in Hokkaido but we got this. The next best thing if you can't go. And I was surprised how good it was. So now I wonder, how can I make my next trip to try it in real life there.

Mighty close from eki. Lovely excellent ramen in north japan. Simple but splendid tasty. Felt like home cooked.

A ramen shop in front of Wakkanai Station. The menu is only salt, shoyu, and rice, but salt is overwhelmingly popular. Along with Aoi Tori, also in Wakkanai, it's a popular salt ramen shop. This was my first visit. Just before 13:00 on a weekend, the shop was almost full. It's run by an elderly husband and his wife. The husband does nearly all the cooking by himself, so it takes some time. The ramen has a clear salt soup. Unfortunately I didn't taste much umami. I'd say Aoi Tori is far better. The noodles were quite thin and felt overcooked. The chashu was three meaty slices, just right for this ramen. Other toppings were green onion, menma, and fu. The fu was thick and wasn't soaked in the soup, and even when I dipped it, it didn't soften easily, which puzzled me.

Even though it was May, the wind was very strong, so I looked for something warm and came to eat ramen. There were only two menu items, shio and shoyu, so I chose shio without hesitation. Unlike the shio ramen you'd typically imagine, the broth was very rich and oilier than expected. The price was 900 yen. My stomach was upset from a hangover, but it settled it well. Thanks to the kind owner, I was able to end my trip to Wakkanai on a happy note. Next time I'd like to come again to try the shoyu.
