Visited in early July and it was not that crowded. The most northern railway. Bucket list and good photo spot including Pokemon manhole cover. Small souvenir shop inside the station. There’s a tourist counter with helpful guides around the town and the mascot is cute. Spotted wild deer outside the station.
View on GoogleThis is literally the northernmost terminal station. The station is small and only a handful of trains come, so there is certainly a lonely, end-of-the-line feeling, but the station is so clean that it's a bit of an anticlimax; (after all, it's glass-walled and far too bright (lol). The old station building had more character). Inside and outside the station there are several symbols marking the northernmost point, making it a perfect spot for commemorative photos. Not well known, but if you go up the stairs to the 2nd floor, there's a small observation deck where you can look down on the trains.
View on GoogleI'm not a railway fan, but coincidentally, when I went to the sand baths in Ibusuki earlier, I stopped by Nishi-Oyama Station on the way, and this time I happened to arrive at Wakkanai Station, so without even trying I've visited both the north and south poles of JR!
View on GoogleWakkanai Station is a railway station located at the northernmost tip of Japan, and its northernmost track in particular draws attention. Because this track is at the northernmost end of Hokkaido, it is also a popular spot for tourists. Wakkanai Station is the terminal station of the JR Hokkaido Soya Main Line, and from here you can also access Cape Soya, the northernmost point of Japan. The northernmost track is a perfect place for railway fans and travelers to take commemorative photos, and offers a special experience to visitors. Around the station there are also many tourist spots where you can feel the nature and culture of the northern land, making it a place worth visiting.
View on GoogleWhen I think about it, I've come a long way. This is where the tracks that vehicles can run on end, but the traces of the rails continue from inside the building to the wheel stopper outside, and even to the dome.
