A radio plays loudly outside, perhaps to deter bears, but it's quiet indoors. A gentle woman welcomed us. It's very close to Wakkanai Airport, so I think it's also a good place to pass time before a flight.
View on GoogleThe building actually used to film “Kita no Sakuramori,” starring Sayuri Yoshinaga, is preserved here. Admission is free, and you can look inside the building too. Displays showed the filming, props, and local people appearing as extras. A volunteer staff member explained everything carefully. It's well maintained and was a wonderful place.
View on GoogleWe visited just after noon on a Sunday during a long weekend in mid-September, to pass time before the final flight of this trip. But the whole area's atmosphere was lovely, and it was a very nice sightseeing spot. The volunteers were wonderful too, leaving us feeling warm right through the end of our trip. We'd also visited Kita no Canaria Park a few days earlier, so Sayuri Yoshinaga suddenly felt much more familiar, haha. I really understood that it was a wonderful work that only someone who loves Hokkaido could possibly express. My partner apparently watched the movie straight away, so I'll watch it too!!
View on GoogleThe filming set for “Kita no Sakuramori” is displayed free of charge. I also recommend the spot where you can take a photo with Sayuri Yoshinaga using a QR code. Volunteers kindly explain things. Apparently it's open from 10 to 17. The Kita no Sakuramori charm was cute, so I bought one as a souvenir. 500円 including tax. Explanatory brochures are available for free.
View on GoogleAn outdoor set built for filming “Kita no Sakuramori.” It opened to the public as a museum on 2018年4月29日. I was humbled by the lady guides' kind, detailed explanations. They said cherry trees are being planted gradually on the hill behind, and this will continue for more than 10 years. It's close to Wakkanai Airport and has a wonderful atmosphere. It's become a place I'd like to visit again. The cast and others involved must feel comfortable entrusting its management to them.
