The Tsukigata Maruyama Viewing Platform is a hidden gem in Hokkaido, offering breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding landscape. Perched at the summit of Tsukigata Maruyama Park, it provides a tranquil and scenic experience perfect for nature lovers and history enthusiasts alike. The platform overlooks the historic northernmost cedar forest, planted by prisoners in 1890, adding a unique historical touch to the already stunning scenery. Visiting during spring reveals a blanket of cherry blossoms, while autumn transforms the view with vibrant red and gold foliage, making every season a unique experience. The peaceful atmosphere and fresh mountain air make it an ideal spot for relaxation and reflection, though visitors should note the lack of on-site facilities and prepare accordingly. Reaching the platform requires a short uphill hike, so comfortable shoes are recommended. Despite this, the Tsukigata Maruyama Viewing Platform is a must-visit destination that combines natural beauty with historical depth, making it a highlight of any trip to Tsukigata Maruyama Park.

This makes 3 observation decks in a row^^; This place also has the name Maruyama, as expected☆ Both the colors and shape make it such a cute-looking observation deck☆ But again, there weren't many visitors here either, and it felt deserted ~There were also no guide signs, so it was hard to find… Anyway, once you go up, the view is fantastic! Really, when the weather is too clear, the distance gets hazy and blue… Especially in photos, it looks even more like that~Beyond the town, you can see mountains such as Mount Ashibetsu☆ There were proper direction signs attached to the fence☆ You can see the somewhat nearby Tsukigata Prison.

An observation deck at the summit of Maruyama Park in Tsukigata. The structure has a cute crescent-shaped design, and from the viewing deck, with the mountains behind you, you can admire a 180-degree panorama from the direction of Sapporo to the direction of Bibai. Originally, to establish a national prison in Hokkaido, Maruyama was used in 1880 to overlook the plains during a survey of the geographical conditions. This survey led to the establishment of 樺戸集治監 in 1881 (now the Tsukigata Kabato Museum). Along the road to this observation deck is a cedar forest planted by prisoners. This cedar forest is reportedly at Japan's northern limit. There is a stone monument at the former reference point for cutting the Minenobu Road (commonly called Kabato Road), Prefectural Route 275 connecting Kabato in Tsukigata Town and Minenobu in Bibai City, which once linked 樺戸集治監 and 空知集治監. As of May 2022, the public toilet that used to be beside the parking lot has been removed, leaving an empty plot.

When you arrive in Tsukigata town, look toward the mountains. There's a yellow structure atop a relatively nearby low mountain. You'll need to make a few turns along the way, but as you approach the mountain, there are 2 routes, to the left and right of a factory. Both lead to this yellow crescent. The moon is about 3 tenths buried. (Looks nice)
