There is a huge amount of material, and it's well worth seeing. Besides the story of the 三毛別 bear, there are exhibits about the history of 苫前町. I recommend allowing more than 1 hour for your visit.

Visited during Obon in 2026. The exterior looked old and made me a little worried, but the inside was quite nice. Admission is 310円. Probably cash only. There is also a diorama of the 三毛別 bear attack incident. Bear attacks have been increasing recently, too, so it might be worth visiting to remind yourself to stay alert.

I visited on a weekday in month 5 of 2026. You can get a glimpse of the history of 苫前町 and the people who have lived there. You can learn details about the bear attack incident, and I was also able to watch a digest of a film based on it. There are also exhibits about the discontinued 羽幌線 and the way people used to live in this area. Admission was 310円 per 1 adult. The woman at reception when I visited was also very kind and helpful.

There are exhibit explanations about the 三毛別羆事件 and local historical materials. Time flies when you're reading about the incident. I hope nothing like this ever happens again.

There are various worthwhile exhibits, from the 三毛別事件 to life in the old days. Children are fascinated because they can try old-fashioned activities and handle everyday tools, such as polishing rice with a large sake bottle and using a stone mill. Quite a variety of tree stumps are also displayed. You don't often get to compare them, so they're a must-see!
