It seems to be run by a taciturn owner and two women. The limited "Shintan Set Meal" apparently sells out as soon as the shop opens. The taste was the best. My foodie friend raved that it's just as good as the authentic beef tongue from its home region. I've never been there myself, so I wouldn't know... (ToT)

Mid-July trip to Hokkaido, 50 minutes from Sapporo in a friend's car. Lunch at "Gyutan Nishi" in Numanohata Chuo, Tomakomai, a charcoal-grill restaurant. I think it was a place my friend was told about by a customer, either when he was at the Tomakomai branch or on a business trip. The "since we're here" feeling kicked in, so I ordered the "Beef tongue set meal (large)": beef tongue (ten slices), barley rice, and beef tongue soup, 3,000 yen. I also added "Tororo (single item)" for 300 yen. The "Shintan set meal" (limited quantity, 150 grams, barley rice, beef tongue soup, 3,200 yen) was already sold out. The ten slices of beef tongue were satisfying to eat, tender, well seasoned and delicious. Barley rice really goes well with beef tongue. The soup and tororo were tasty too. I had a beef tongue set meal when I went to Sendai, but that was a chain store, and I felt the beef tongue in Tomakomai might be even better.

Arrived at 11:40! I ordered the Shintan set meal, but it was sold out because of reserved portions. I ordered the beef tongue set meal (medium) and tororo. If they served it piping hot I'd give 5 stars without complaint, but for some reason it's always lukewarm... so -1 star. If you want to order the Shintan set meal, I recommend making a reservation in advance.

A beef tongue restaurant in Tomakomai I visited just before noon on a weekend The parking lot was full, and after waiting about 5 minutes someone who had finished eating came out and a spot opened up Inside it was almost full, but I was seated without waiting The interior has 6 counter seats and 4 tables on a raised tatami area I ordered the mixed set meal! Because I sat at the counter, I could watch it being grilled right in front of me, which was great ⭕️ The food arrived in about 15 minutes! The beef tongue is incredibly good! The tsukune is good too! The soup is also good! Refills of rice were free! Very satisfied 😋
