A taishu shokudo (everyday diner) bursting with Showa atmosphere. I spotted katsu curry among the wooden-plaque menu items on the wall, so I completely ignored the ramen banners fluttering outside and ordered the katsu curry. What came out was truly a Showa-era katsu curry. A big katsu sits boldly on a large mound of rice, with plenty of curry majestically enthroned on top. Spaghetti salad topped with mayonnaise, fried eggplant and green pepper, and bunny-cut apple slices are all piled on the same plate as the curry—tons of volume. The standout is the katsu! Insanely good! The prep must be good—the thick katsu bites through easily, and it's fried perfectly to a deep golden brown, super fragrant! However, the curry itself is a bit strongly sour, so opinions may be divided. Not too spicy, not too sweet, no burning heat lingering underneath, yet the spice aroma is spot-on—it really is a wonderful curry, but it might be a taste that not every customer will love. Also, I said it has tons of volume, but it's way too much. Students might put it away easily, but for an old guy like me it was a tough amount. Of course I ate it all. Inside, two tables for 4 are pushed together, plus two raised tatami seats for 4. The counter has 5 seats. Hours are 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. (19:00). However, in winter when the snow gets heavy, they apparently close around 18:30. The shop is on the corner of a busy intersection, so be careful when visiting by car! It's set back a little and hard to spot, but the red ramen banner might serve as a landmark.
View on GoogleInside, the shop has a Showa vibe. It's run by a married couple; the husband mainly handles deliveries, and the wife does the cooking. This time I had the katsu curry; it came with salad and bunny-cut apple, and it tasted like old-fashioned curry made from curry powder and flour. It was delicious. Next time I want to try the ramen^_^ Katsu curry 800円
View on GoogleI'd been curious about it forever, so I finally visited! The inside is totally Showa lol. Ordered the tonkatsu ramen. Soy sauce flavor seems to be the default. The bowl arrived in about 10 minutes. The first bite caught me off guard. Such a nostalgic taste! The noodles are Sapporo noodles. The katsu is tasty too. The lean meat goes really well with the ramen soup♪ Next time I wanna try the miso ramen❗
View on GoogleA shop with an intense Showa feel; when I went in the evening, a cat was lounging in the tatami seating. Personally, I like it. An acquaintance ordered the katsu ramen, and it was a huge portion with 2 servings of noodles—I was surprised.
View on GoogleIt was old-fashioned ramen🍜 A very nostalgic, light ramen, and it was delicious😊 The menu was extensive too. There are set meals, curry rice, rice bowls, and daily specials too😊♡ The owner was very kind.
