I visited the Teshio History Museum with my family last August, and it was a memorable experience. The museum offers a fascinating look into the region’s rich history, with exhibits that tell the story of Teshio’s early settlement and development. As we walked through the museum, I was reminded of the Akarenga in Sapporo City, both in terms of the historical significance and the charming atmosphere. The Teshio History Museum, with its well-curated displays and informative exhibits, provides a wonderful opportunity to learn about the area’s past while enjoying the peaceful setting. It’s definitely a place worth visiting if you're looking to connect with the local heritage. Admission Fee when we visited 200 yen per adult
View on GoogleInteresting museum.some displays have a qr code which has an explanation in English. Also a handout in English explaining the local history. In September it is open every day.
View on GoogleAccording to the information, it seems to be open every day except Monday. But when I went on Tuesday afternoon and Wednesday morning, it was closed!😳 So disappointing!😳 Or is it not open in winter?🤔 The building's exterior is beautiful though 🤣🤩
View on GoogleAdmission ¥200 About a 3-minute walk from roadside station 「てしお」, with its own parking area. The building is a former town hall built in 1896, renovated for use as a museum. Its muted vermilion bricks and period forms give it a dignified appearance shaped by the years. Inside, it was still fresh and clean, with spacious, simple exhibits making full use of the two-story building. I thought it clearly introduced the history of 天塩's formation, industrial development, and changes in its nature and regional character over time through well-organized exhibits and concise explanations. Seeing the world's oldest whale fossil and elaborately designed interiors from an earlier era was quite interesting too.
View on GoogleApparently the brick building used to be the town hall. Materials on display recall its prosperous days supported by timber and other industries. On the 2nd floor, a room is devoted to the world's oldest gray whale fossil, 「テシオコククジラ」. General admission was 200円. No one was at the desk, and it still took a while after pressing the bell. It seems to be broken.
