At this facility, you can trace the journey of 滝上町 through items brought in by townspeople. You can learn how settlers faced the cold while working to develop agriculture and forestry, the town's main industries. A steam locomotive was also displayed on the grounds.

Local-history materials from 滝上町 and static displays of SL39628 (9600 series) and キ277, formerly used on the old national railway's 渚滑線 (the entire line closed in 1980), are exhibited. It may have something to do with the budget, but I struggle to understand why they crammed the display into such a cramped space. You can only see one side of the steam locomotive, and even the front, which I most wanted to see, isn't clearly visible. The local museum itself seems to have hardly any visitors, the toilet is a non-flush pit type, and the place feels as if time has stopped. It was 150 yen, but I felt, they charge money for this?

It was already closed on the day I visited. Apparently this year's opening season ended on November 1, and it seems to reopen in May. There are hot springs, campsites, and other places nearby, so why not stop by while sightseeing?

Admission is 150 yen. There is a steam-locomotive hall and a museum. Perhaps because I was the only visitor, the caretaker showed me around a little. There are a reasonable number of exhibits for the admission price. Apart from the mint-distillation barrel, it feels like a very ordinary museum. I think it's good for learning about the area's history and origins.

Google's information said it was open on April 29, so I went, but it actually opened from May 1. I visited later and it was quite good. 滝の上 had more than 13000 people at its peak! The hotel opposite also feels historic!
