Like Kitami Aioi and Kerochi in the surrounding area, the station building and other structures are preserved, and related materials are displayed. A must-see for fans of abandoned railway lines and their remains.
View on GoogleRailway materials are displayed in the Takinoue station building, the terminus of the former Japanese National Railways Shokotsu Line, which was closed in its entirety in 1980年(Showa 60). Its retro atmosphere evokes nostalgia, making it a lovely place. Takinoue has a local history museum nearby where a 9600-series steam locomotive is preserved on static display, but almost nobody visits. I can’t help thinking it would be far more useful as a tourism resource if moved here. Actually, they absolutely should do that.
View on GoogleVisited 2024-8-13 This is Kitami Takinoue Station, formerly the terminus of the Japanese National Railways Shokotsu Line, which closed on 1985年(Showa 60年)4月1日. It is now maintained as a memorial museum. Admission is free. When you enter, there is also a hospital sign overhead, evoking the station’s atmosphere at the time. The interior is clean and well maintained, like a station still in service. The displayed materials are extensive too. According to Takinoue Town’s website, there are 300 items. Behind the memorial museum, tracks, a signal, a station nameboard (probably reconstructed), and a locomotive were also displayed.
View on GoogleI’m grateful to everyone preserving this station building, whose line closed about 40 years ago. It is a simple building with a corrugated-metal roof and wooden exterior walls, and the rails left behind the station have rusted brown, evoking nostalgia.
View on GoogleIn front of the Hokumon Bus 「滝上」 bus stop, with the Takinoue Town Cultural Center also next door. The former site of Kitami Takinoue Station on the former Japanese National Railways Shokotsu Line. Personally, my main reason for coming was the surviving station nameboard from the 「雄鎮内」(ゆうちんない) temporary stop.
