I took a long walk and reached it, just knowing it was close... so sad about it.
View on GoogleVery interesting creatures on display but it was kinda short
View on GoogleOk for a short visit as nothing much to see. Good for children but not recommended for tourists if you are in a hurry
View on GoogleFirst of all, this museum will surely be hugely exciting for dinosaur lovers. After entering and walking through a corridor lined with panels about Earth's history, you reach a fossil exhibition space just like the final scene of Jurassic Park, and I got excited despite my age. The famous Tyrannosaurus, a mammoth, the Takikawa kaigyu heavily promoted in Takikawa, a Protoceratops holding eggs, a giant deer, and more—an immediate parade of ancient creatures that sent my imagination soaring. A little farther up are an early human and a Pteranodon. There are also life-size panels, and I was even moved by the thought that such enormous flying creatures once filled the ancient skies. There was no Quetzalcoatlus yet; perhaps it had not been discovered when this museum was established? Some explanations are occasionally outdated, but that itself gives a sense of history. Like the neighboring children's science museum, the entire building is accessible via ramps with no stairs, so anyone can explore comfortably. Near the connecting passage to the children's science museum, there is also an exhibition corner related to 黒柳朝, known as Chocchan, whose story became a morning TV drama, so that is a must-see too. When I visited on July 24, 2022, an exhibition corner called 「石油ヲツクル」 about Takikawa's former oil industry was being held, and it left me feeling reflective. This is a facility that adults and children alike can enjoy. Especially for dinosaur lovers like me, it is a place you will want to visit from time to time. In August 2024, a model exhibition is underway. Gundam fans in particular should definitely visit.
View on GoogleA choice spot to learn about Takikawa's history and art together at a low cost. Numerous impressive exhibits, including fossils of kaigyu that flourished in ancient times and replicas of Tyrannosaurus and others, let you feel the pulse of the Earth. There are also permanent displays by 3 artists closely connected to the area, and dinosaur gacha popular with children.
