My family and I were here this afternoon for the Mount Usu Ropeway, and we decided to drop in for some drinks and for Hokkaido's famous milk ice cream, before taking the Ropeway. For me, I had an Ice Coffee with milk ice cream for JPY500 and it was very good. The soft-serve milk ice cream topping was, as expected, very yummy, and the coffee was very good - robust and not acidic. And when the "remnants" of the milk ice cream was mixed into the coffee, the combination was like a match made in heaven. FYI whilst there was a sign at the shop to consume its ice cream and drinks off premises, we were allowed to do so on its air-conditioned premises that turned out to be very nice.

View on GoogleAfter lunch and a little hike on 有珠山, I came here with the excuse of replenishing my body's carbs. It's a small place with an indoor dining counter and a few souvenirs, mainly focused on takeaway, I suppose. It somehow feels like a mountain cabin. The fried foods and sausages are like the selection at an expressway rest area. Lots of menu photos are posted so foreign visitors can understand them easily too. Fried food and frankfurters are nice when it's cold, aren't they? This time, carbs only. I went for the soft serve made with 北海道 azuki! The staff said it was quiet today. It is Friday, after all. Apparently weekends during slightly hot weather get frantic. When I received my soft serve, there seemed to be a few too few swirls... maybe? I took a souvenir photo and dug in. The 北海道 azuki flavor is delicious. It even has azuki beans in it! The Japanese flavor might be nice. At 450円, it's OK. Looking closely as I ate, I noticed the cone was red and white (though not actually white)! Pretty stylish.
View on GoogleThis is a souvenir and soft-serve shop at the foot of 昭和新山. There is also a dining area inside. I bought a mixed soft serve (milk & azuki) for 450円 including tax. It looks like chocolate, but tastes of azuki. I felt it was a soft serve to enjoy more for its aroma than its flavor.
