The serving sizes were massive! The chashu here is possibly the tastiest I've had in Japan - thick, generous, and tender. Miso broth wasn't as rich as other places, but still delicious. The shoyu broth was quite nice. The wontons were plentiful and tasty. The floor seating was a bit of a struggle, but other than that, a pleasant experience. This is clearly a popular place as there was a small queue waiting to get it.

The chashu at this place is one of the best that I've ever had... pick whatever soup but just make sure to get the chashu

🦅鷲尾★ジロー's 「Lunchtime Ramen」 vol. 1,033 🍜【もやしワンタンメン】 A popular ramen restaurant in Shiranuka. It's also known as an accomplished restaurant featured in 「ミシュランガイド北海道 特別編 2012、2017」. Founded in Showa 24(1949). It started as 「矢幡製麺所」 in Yubetsu, in the former town of Akan, and moved to Shiranuka in Showa 45(1970)after the Yubetsu coal mine closed. Today, a third-generation couple keeps the business going. 「老麺」 is a kanji spelling of 'ramen.' This spelling was often seen on Chinese restaurant signs from before the war through around the Showa 30s, but nowadays, when many restaurants write 「拉麺」, it's unusual to find one using 「老麺」 in its name. You really feel the life of Showa-era ramen culture. Today, I had the recommended 「もやしワンタンメン」😋 The soup combines Japanese-style dashi with pork-bone broth for a gentle yet rich soy-sauce flavor. It's lighter than it looks, with a clean finish. The flavor evokes the nostalgia of 'old-fashioned chuka soba.' The noodles are homemade, thin, and curly. They go down smoothly and catch the soup well, with the polish you'd expect from a restaurant rooted in noodle-making. Smooth wontons and crunchy bean sprouts. The tender, fatty chashu is delicious too. I polished it off in no time. So good〜(*´∀`*) Loved locally for half a century. Ramen with homemade noodles that evokes the Showa era. Delicious♪ Thanks for the meal🙏 (Visited February 26, 2026)

The noodles weren't separated, and there were 2 big clumps… The soup has a strong seafood flavor, but isn't overpowering. There are 2 slices of delicious chashu. The problem is the noodles. They're thin, though not quite Kushiro-ramen thin. Why are there 2 unseparated clumps, as if an amateur boiled them? I separated the clumps as much as I could and tried eating them, but they were practically inedible. Yep. It's done for. With this flavor, this price, and bad noodles too, I won't go again. The air conditioner was blasting, so it was good that the interior didn't feel unpleasantly humid.

【老麺 やはた】😃 A restaurant I stopped at for lunch on the first day of a 2-day, 1-night business trip to Kushiro😃 ■Basic information • Parking: Available beside the restaurant. • Seating: Counter seats, tables, and a raised tatami seating area. • Payment: Sit down and order, then pay at the register(after eating). • Opening hours: 11:00–14:30, 17:00–19:00 • Regular closing day: Wednesday • Reservations available • Smoking/non-smoking: All seats non-smoking ■Conditions during the visit • Visit time: Around 11:30 • Crowding: About 7 tenths full; I used the raised tatami seating area. ■Menu ordered • Dish: 『みそチャーシューメン(1,600円)』 ■Impressions • Food: The 『みそチャーシューメン』 I had this time struck an exquisite balance between the distinctive texture of homemade noodles and a rich miso soup with a clean finish! The chashu nearly covered the entire bowl, with plenty of meaty flavor and a generous portion. A luxurious bowl truly worthy of being called 'a feast of ramen,' worth its 1,600円 price, and delicious enough to energize me for work. • Restaurant: When I arrived around 11:30, about 7 tenths of the seats were already occupied, and the place was lively with local regulars and people at work. I used the raised tatami seating area this time; it was spacious and relaxing, allowing me to take a welcome breather during a hectic business trip. Sitting down, taking my time to order, and paying after the meal also felt comfortable, with the reassuring atmosphere of a long-established restaurant. ■Quick note: There's a dedicated parking lot beside the restaurant, so even people traveling by car on business can easily stop by. Lunch service runs from 11:00 to 14:30, and evening service from 17:00 to 19:00, with a somewhat early closing time, so coming early as I did is best. All seats are non-smoking, making it convenient for families too. A distinguished restaurant with a sense of history that you absolutely shouldn't miss when visiting the Shiranuka・Kushiro area. I enjoyed a satisfying lunch😃
