20220725 first visit. The morning TV horoscope said ramen was my lucky item, so I had decided on ramen for lunch. Shintoku is known for soba, but I went for ramen. I was shocked by the menu. Regular miso, soy sauce, and salt start at 950 yen 💦⁉️ Unable to hide my surprise a little, I thought I should have chosen soba… Collected myself and decided to go all in, ordering salt ramen with local chicken and firm noodles. 1100 yen.

Does he run the place alone every day? When I visited, someone who seemed to be the owner was running it by himself. He couldn't keep up with clearing the restaurant, and 2 of the 3 raised-floor tables were occupied by dishes left by customers who had finished eating. I was like, huh? The taste was ordinary. Slightly generous toppings, such as vegetables. The prices felt about 100〜150 yen higher. The owner (I think) provided good service.

-----2019.01 first visit----- This is the Horyu chain, which for some reason has many locations in Tokachi. This was my first stop at the Shintoku branch. The parking lot is spacious. The interior is fairly spacious too. I visited after lunchtime, close to 14:00, but bowls hadn't been cleared from any of the raised-floor seating areas, and 1 regular customer was chatting with the owner. Not a very good impression. The taste is standard. There's a lot of lard, leaving a greasy aftertaste. Not richness—lard. Haha. There's talk about Michelin and so on, but honestly, the flavor was nothing I cared about.

On the way to Tomamu, I had miso ramen, my child had salt chashu. It was delicious. A flavor that's been around for years. Somehow my child paid the bill, which made me really happy.

Had lunch here while transferring in Shintoku. It's a bit of a walk from the station. I get the impression Horyu has many locations in eastern Hokkaido, but the menu here is a little different. A little heavy on the oil. The owner was running everything alone and seemed to be having a tough time.
