Great little museum to explore while you're in the area. I wish more towns had collections like this.
View on GoogleI underestimated it because it was free, but as many other reviews say, it was a thoroughly enjoyable facility! Although compactly arranged, the exhibits are very easy to view, and that compactness actually means you can finish before getting tired of standing. It made me think about how immense 伊能忠敬’s achievements really were, how kombu swims too, and how there’s no way I could beat a brown bear no matter how hard I tried. It reminded me to make sure I at least buy a bear bell before heading into Hokkaido’s mountain areas. A wonderful free museum.
View on GoogleFree admission. A cultural facility with a very easy-to-navigate layout where you can casually learn about the origins and history of 日高町 in a short visit. It shares a large, impressive, still-new red-brick building with a library, and the interior is nicely fitted out with solid furnishings and displays. It’s an excellent facility, though it feels more like a local history collection than a museum. The exhibits are presented in a simple, easy-to-understand way across one spacious floor, and being free made it feel like quite a bargain.
View on GoogleThe town’s origins and other subjects are displayed in an easy-to-understand way. A quick look around takes about 10 minutes; following everything carefully might take over 1 hour? The special exhibition had live displays of creatures living in the rivers around here. Seems just perfect for children’s independent research projects during summer vacation~! The Ezo salamanders were super cute!!
View on GoogleA museum you can visit for free The exhibits are few but substantial The displays about kombu in particular are very detailed
