I entered at lunchtime on a public holiday. A customer who had arrived before us, apparently a local regular, was chatting amiably with the proprietress. The distance between the shop staff and customers is very close, with a warm atmosphere. Inside there is one raised tatami area seating up to 4 people, plus counter and table seats for about 10 people in total. Perhaps the owner likes cats; cat plush toys, pictures, and other cat goods are casually placed here and there in the shop, which was fun. The words "shiitake tempura soba" made with local Shimokawa shiitake caught my eye and I ordered without hesitation. Before long, the soba was brought out together with piping hot, freshly fried tempura. It's Sarashina-style nihachi soba hand-made by the proprietress using buckwheat flour from Horokanai. When chewed, you can taste the umami of the soba, and it's delicious. The shiitake tempura, being local, had a strong aroma and excellent chewiness. Tempura of aonanban, green peppers, and eggplant came alongside too, so this is practically a vegetable tempura soba. When dipped in the coarse salt provided, each vegetable's natural aroma and umami came through. I guessed they probably use fresh local vegetables. The shop was run single-handedly by the owner, so when it got crowded customers had to carry the finished dishes to their tables themselves and help with clearing after meals, but that was part of the fun. A group of young people who came in after us responded cheerfully to the owner's requests. I felt that the personality of the proprietress, who saw us off with a big smile after we paid, is directly reflected in the shop's warm atmosphere. Parking is available beside and behind the shop.
View on GoogleBased on everyone's reviews, I had the "shiitake tempura soba". It was delicious. I ate it with coarse salt. I went in around 12 o'clock but was able to sit without waiting. The tempura isn't just shiitake; besides the shiitake, a few vegetables come with it. The proprietress runs it alone, so let's help with serving and clearing dishes. That may be the advantage that brings people closer together. After paying, I was sent off with the proprietress's smile. I definitely want to go again.
View on Google☆Yamatoya☆ A long-established soba shop in Shimokawa Town The building and the shop-name sign already have so much character I like shops like this☆ And it's not just the look, the soba is seriously delicious! I wanted to eat shiitake tempura and had been wanting to go for a while~ Shimokawa's shiitake is a local specialty and really tasty you know~ I headed there for that shiitake ten zaru, but the proprietress said she hadn't stocked up today so she couldn't make it~ Oh no, what a shame Then there was a regular customer there She said if I had time she would ask that person to buy some and cook it, so I was finally able to eat the shiitake tempura I'd longed for~ so happy\(^o^) Thank you so much to that customer Besides the shiitake, the whole-burdock tempura was delicious~ not hard at all! No bitterness and fried crisp♫ The eggplant and green pepper were great too (^^) (the accompaniments were tasty as well) The main soba is also hand-made by the proprietress, country-style, firm and flavorful, and together with the broth I was very satisfied♪ She apparently earned a dan rank in Horokanai and took over this shop as the sixth generation! She also bakes bread and sells it in the shop☆ I like bread too, so I bought the bean loaf~ The bag was heavy when I held it The proprietress said it's very filling, and when cut the density of the bread was incredible Still, the aroma is lovely~ soft and full of beans☆ Thanks for the meal☆ When I want shiitake tempura again I'll head out again^^/ By the way, I got a large portion of soba☆ A satisfying lunch! Thank you for the meal~ see you~(_ _)
View on GoogleI had the shiitake tempura soba made with Shimokawa Town-grown shiitake. Not to mention the soba, the shiitake was thick, juicy, and delicious. They also sell bread, and I bought the cheese couronne and the bean loaf. Both were fluffy and very tasty. The bean loaf is the best. I will definitely buy it again.
View on GoogleVisited June 2024. I had a large portion of tanuki soba. It was tasty, but I think the price is on the high side. There were no other customers when I entered, but a few trickled in afterwards. Water is self-serve. Parking is beside the shop.
