The restaurant is an airy and brightly lit annex at the Shihoro Roadside Stop. Ticket machine made it easy to order but really there is just one celebrity here stealing the whole show and that's the Shihoro fillet steak. It's called Shihoro Sword-tip Steak because it is served on the pointed blade of a shovel. The meat is expertly cooked to be tenderly rare but seared sealed and juicy. Shihoro beef is less fatty so the texture is similar to wild game like kangaroo but still tastes as beef. The sauce and roast vegetables make a beautiful pairing to the meat. The overall presentation just elevates it to something special that the restaurant is extremely proud and no surprise that it is easily the most expensive item on the menu at 3200 yen. Spouse ordered the beef bowl for 930 yen which was good value but not worth writing about. Probably just something the restaurant sells to pay the bills. Should you pay a visit then be sure to meet the Shihoro superstar and skip the average beef bowl. Definitely worth the asking price. Also the service is quick and staff is friendly. That helps too!

Nice pitstop with nice dandan mien

The parking lot is spacious and easy to park in, the building is cute and Nordic-style, and it's packed wall to wall with souvenirs, so there's plenty to see. At the small food court you can buy delicious croquettes, soft serve, and more, and there are tables and chairs so you can eat while you rest. I didn't try it this time, but the hamburger 🍔 shop looked delicious too. There's also a dining hall in the back, which seems great for a hearty lunch. It's a roadside station I always look forward to stopping by whenever I go to Tokachi.

A dining hall inside 道の駅 ピアしほろ. The wide-open interior is a space where you can relax at leisure A dining hall mainly serving set meals. I've eaten various things, but my top recommendation is the 『Salted Mackerel Set Meal』. In Ibaraki Prefecture, which has close ties to Hokkaido, there's a shop specializing in mackerel called 越田商店. This is a rare set meal where you can eat that mackerel. The mackerel itself is incredibly delicious. The grilling is perfect too, and the rice just keeps going down! Switching over to the Shihoro beef hamburg steak set meal. The hamburg steak comes in an unusual pointed-shovel dish and looks really wonderful. But honestly, the taste is just so-so. It's meaty, but it's a mediocre hamburg steak where you can't taste the beef's umami. I think the shop wants to promote local food, but I can't really recommend this one It's limited-time, but there's also a sundubu set meal, so the shop has intriguing menu items. The rice, which is key for a set meal, is also on the good side for Hokkaido, I think (cooked on the firm side). As a dining hall at a roadside station, it's perfectly decent!

The tamago kake gohan was very delicious. Reasonably priced and excellent value for money. You buy a meal ticket from the vending machine and hand it to the counter, and the floor staff show you to your seat.
