nice view, with some flowers and the sound of seagulls calling to each other. the climb isn't too difficult.

As a first time foreign tourist in Hokkaido, I made a climb up this Rock this morning. The steps for the ascent (and descent) were firm and good, and it was manageable for me as a 65 year old. The surrounding views going up the steps and at the top of the Rock made the climb up (then down) worth the effort.

It’s a giant boulder at the Utoro bay, we walked up the stairs to get a 360° view of the sea! Many pretty wild flowers when we were there in mid-June. We watched seagulls, watched the sunset, it was beautiful!

It was an enjoyable little hike. It is free to enter. (I was told it is closed in winter.) The steps up can get your heart rate up but it's not that long until the top. Nice views of the town and the port area. Be careful, going up the steps are cement but of various uneven sizes. At the top the steps and boardwalk are made of wood and there are many bad spots where the wood has rotted or broken. We went at 6am before it got too hot. The lighting then was nice.

Steep climb but great view and worth the 200 steps. Easy to park and free to visit.
