Free admission. One of the cultural facilities associated with the Shari Municipal Shiretoko Museum. It is broadly divided into 2 areas for permanent and temporary exhibitions, and the exhibition area at the back introducing sister and friendship cities was more substantial. Both areas have open ceilings, with walkways running around the walls so the displays can also be viewed from the second floor. The sister town is Taketomi in Okinawa Prefecture, at Japan’s southernmost tip. I think the friendship city is Hirosaki because of the history of Tsugaru domain samurai being stationed in Shari. The spacious displays use the large floor area generously and are easy to view, showcasing local crafts and introducing local culture. Large exhibits such as colorful nebuta floats and Okinawan houses were also recreated in their original form.

There are exhibits about Shari’s sister cities, Hiromae and Taketomi. There are also masks and taxidermy specimens, but it is only one floor + the Shari neputa storage area, so I think it is more of a place to drop by while visiting the Shiretoko Museum…

The museum reception also recommended this adjacent facility. There are a few little exhibits ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
