We were really looking forward to dining here, but unfortunately it ended up being one of the biggest disappointments of our trip. We hired a taxi and traveled over one and half hours specifically to eat at this restaurant, so our expectations were understandably high. Sadly, the meal did not live up to the reputation. The uni was not fresh, and the rest of the seafood was average at best and simply not memorable. We spent over $100, and despite finishing our meal, we were still so unsatisfied that we went to another nearby seafood restaurant afterward. The difference was night and day. The food at the second restaurant was noticeably fresher, more flavorful, and far better prepared. Considering the time, cost, and effort it took to get here, this experience was extremely disappointing. I cannot recommend this restaurant, especially when there are much better options nearby. I highly recommend Ushio 5 mins drive away.

You need to know that this restaurant offers the Top notch uni (sea urchin) which you won’t find anywhere in the world. You may have some chance to get the same one (aka uni) in Tokyo, LA or Dubai but the price will drive you crazy for sure. The food is unparalleled and extremely fresh. The 赤うに丼 is more than 10,000yen but you MUST TRY IT! Absolutely one of the best uni restaurants in積丹

I suggest going somewhere else. This is clearly a tourist spot and the owners can set whatever price they want. If the portion were larger, that’s fine. But it’s not. My family ordered a red Uni don which was ¥12000. Make sure you ask how much because it is market price. I myself ordered a 4 ingredient don, with additional ¥2000 for the red uni. So it came up to ¥5900 however, the ingredients and fish were very small portion. Only two pieces of salmon, scattered crab, few small pieces of shrimp. I think this is way overpriced.

Hands down the best Kaisendon I have ever eaten so far (and to my surprise, better than restaurants in Hakodate). The hotate, snow crab and ikura was filled with so much umami that my mouth went to heaven for 30 minutes. It was really spectacular, highly recommend this restaurant in Shakotan even though it is a little out of the way from Otaru. When we went there, there were also quite a big group so the place was pretty packed (and p noisy) but we did not have to wait long.

Waited in a queue for half an hour on Sat and we got a seat. Ingredients were all fresh! Uni was good! We ordered small size uni which was quite small, so we regretted for not order the larger size one. Only cash payment.
