Mutton barbecue restaurant

★ 4.21,136 reviews

Wood-lined eatery with a park-view terrace, serving mutton with beer & wine since 1953.

It is said that its roots lie with Kuribayashi Motojiro, the founder of "Hakko Gakuen," who brought "Jingisukan," originally a field-cooking dish, from Manchuria to Hokkaido, and it originated from the "members-only Genghis Khan Club" established in 1953.

This restaurant is fairly simple. I love the atmosphere. It feels like being in a big wooden cottage or cabin with both indoor and outdoor seating available. The jingisukan (mutton) was so fresh and flavorful. But my favorite was the dipping sauce that comes with it. Everything is grilled on charcoal grill. The menu is fairly simple and straightforward. The only meat available is the mutton and it comes in a set with everything you need. Even if you get here early, you will have to wait in line, but there should be plenty of tables and seating.

A group of 7 people including 2 kids visited the restaurant. They have plenty of parking space ad well as seating space inside. The benches we sat on had shelves to put our stuff. The food is good and the place is clean and staff are great as well.

Sapporonian's hideaway Jingisukan restaurant. Very local, visitors are welcomed only if fluent in Japanese.
