A Serene Oasis Near the Busy Market – Quality Soba & Warm Hospitality Summary: Located just a stone's throw from the Sapporo Central Wholesale Market, this Soba shop offers a surprisingly calm and refined atmosphere. The interior is spotless, with low-set windows that let in beautiful natural light—perfect for a quiet conversation. Experience: Food: I had the seasonal vegetable tempura with soba. The ingredients were fresh and prepared with care. Portion: The serving size is sophisticated and perfect for a light, healthy meal. However, younger diners or those with a large appetite might find it a bit small. Service: The staff (likely the owner's wife) is incredibly friendly, making you feel genuinely welcome from the moment you walk in. Verdict: An ideal spot for those seeking a peaceful, high-quality lunch away from the market crowds.
View on GoogleFelt like having food at home. Tempura was very delicious and not oily. Soba was refreshing with nice texture. There are English menus as well for foreigners. My dad had the hot duck soba and I had the cold soba with shrimp. Portions were well balanced so I felt just right amount of fullness after the meal. I would recommend going out of the way to visit even if it's a bit far from the station. Many locals visited here and came with their cars so you know it's good!
View on GoogleThe soba, tempura, ambiance, and staff at Michelin-recommended Kohashi are all truly special. It was easily the best soba my wife and I have ever eaten during our annual trips to Japan. The handmade soba was pleasantly coarse, perfectly cooked and extremely chewy, and aromatic with buckwheat flavour. The lightly battered tempura was also the best way to experience Hokkaido's seasonal local vegetables, like their world-class asparagus (thicker, juicier, and much sweeter than its Western counterparts), their mildly sweet “fuki no to” butterbur buds, and meaty, earthy lotus roots. The intimate dining room felt like guests were being invited to the proprietors’ home (which they literally were) -- a bright, minimalistic home annex overlooking a gorgeous garden. The staff were also extremely kind and offer an English menu for overseas visitors. One of the highlights of our trip to Sapporo by far. Thank you for your wonderful hospitality!
