Today I returned to my hometown of Sapporo again in search of delicious ramen, so I came to Horai! Looking at the menu, since I came with my family today, we ordered Horai Men(1100円), Chashu Men(1100円), and for myself, Shoyu Ramen(850円)and Chahan(1100円)! The food arrived. First I took a sip of the soup. The well-seasoned shoyu broth was low in oil, and the wakame and nori gave it a nice balance! The Chahan had separate grains but was slightly moist, with an easy-to-enjoy seasoning that made me eat too much without realizing it. The green peas added lovely color too, and I enjoyed another delicious meal today😋🍴💕! My family's Horai Men order was mistakenly served as Kanton Men. When I mentioned it to the owner, he said, “I'll remake it,” but since he had already made it, we decided to eat it. As an apology, we received pork and cabbage stir-fried with miso, so I added a small rice and ended up eating too much again (haha).
View on GoogleHere in Sapporo, this is probably—— No, I can say it confidently. The most delicious neighborhood Chinese restaurant. The Hoikoro and stir-fried liver with garlic chives are nothing short of neighborhood Chinese culinary art. The aroma, umami, heat control—everything is perfect. The moment you take a bite, you think, “Can a person really savor rice this deeply with every chew?” This is no longer a “meal,” but a moving ritual. Silently swinging a wok with a thunderous clatter in the kitchen is an older gentleman who seems quiet and craftsmanlike. But when the topic turns to baseball, especially the Nippon-Ham Fighters, he becomes a Completely Different Person No. 28. No flashy chatter. He is not the type to shower you with smiles either. But his “kindness” is unmistakably there on the plate. The warmth within the silence, the sincerity that seeps through every deft movement. That flavor is this restaurant's greatest spice. This Hoikoro and stir-fried liver with garlic chives need no medals. They simply make you want to murmur “delicious” quietly. Honesty over flashiness. That is the essence of this restaurant. For anyone looking for “real neighborhood Chinese food” in Sapporo, this is a place I would love you to try at least once.
View on GoogleAn unpretentious Chinese restaurant uphill from AEON Moiwa in Kawazoe, Minami-ku. I visited with my mother for a weekday lunch after a long time away. Since it was a weekday just before the Obon holiday break, there were only a few men who had stopped by during their work breaks. On weekdays, the owner runs everything single-handedly. At first glance, you could hardly call him friendly even to be polite, but that is perfectly fine. If you talk to him, he chats normally and amiably. More importantly, the ramen and gyoza are delicious. The meat-and-vegetable stir-fry set meals from A-C are all truly delicious! This time, after a long absence, I ordered set C, pork and cabbage stir-fried with miso, and my mother ordered Ankake Yakisoba. Before the main dishes arrive, they bring a small plate of something like bean sprout namul and miso soup. Then rice comes with the main dish, but the portion is considerably larger than usual. A big bowl of rice. If you have a small appetite, you should ask for less rice. You cannot take leftovers home here, so try not to leave anything. And now the all-important pork and cabbage stir-fried with miso! It is truly delicious! It makes the rice disappear! Honestly, it is good enough that you run out of rice. There is plenty of tender pork, and even without the meat, the sauce alone does the job lol My mother's Ankake Yakisoba was also seasoned exquisitely. The amount of noodles and ingredients exceeds what you would expect for the price. Next time I want to return without such a long gap and have the ramen and Chahan set. It was really delicious! Thank you for the meal!
View on GoogleIs this a sister restaurant of the one in 24-jo? The menu is almost the same. The differences are slightly smaller portions than at 24-jo and free parking for about 10 cars. This time I wanted noodles, so instead of the standard A〜C set meals, I ordered the ramen set (shoyu & mini Chahan). Nothing exceptional, but perfectly tasty. December 2025, revisited I had the standard set A. Consistently delicious.
View on GoogleVisited Horai, the quintessential neighborhood Chinese restaurant in Kawazoe. The interior retains a Showa-era atmosphere, and the food tastes ordinary in a good way. It is the flavor I often ate as a child. The owner's manner is not as bad as everyone's reviews suggest. His service style is simply Showa-era, haha. Now, in the Reiwa era, everything has become thoroughly customer-led. I feel that in the Showa era, customers and cooks were still closer to equals. During those prosperous Showa years, there was that kind of freedom and energy, and customers did not worry much about little things. This restaurant reminds me of that. Thank you for the meal.
