Visited on a Sunday and it was kinda crowded. Joined the queue 30mins before opening and was lucky to be the first batch into the restaurant. Cozy interior. Easy to order through the tablet and we could change it to English to better understand the menu options. We could customise the spiciness level and amount of rice. First time having soup curry and it was fragrant + delicious.

Visited this famous soup curry resto near Tanukikoji with my family for our first dinner in Sapporo. . I ordered the Tender Chicken Thigh with Vegetables (JPY1480). The chicken thigh was tender and succulent, having soaked up the aromatic curry soup base, which had a complex, spicy-sweet profile thanks to the blends of herbs and spices. The vegetables included broccoli, lotus roots, carrots and red-bell pepper. The broccoli was particularly outstanding and memorable; it was deep-fried, giving it a crunchy texture and a sweet taste. There was also a quail egg that added an extra layer of flavour. Both my bro and my sis ordered the Slow Roasted Kakuni Pork Belly (JPY1640). The pork was incredibly indulgent, with fat that was melt-in-your-mouth soft. It was super appetising to pair with the rice. My dad ordered the Porked Sausage with Smoked Bacon & Cheese (JPY1590). The smokiness of the bacon and the salty, melted cheese added great depth to the curry broth, and the porked sausage was meaty and savoury. My mom ordered the Marina Seafood Bowl with Snow Crab Gratin (JPY3790). The gratin was served in a crab shell, overflowing with a creamy, oven-baked seafood mixture. The seafood bowl also included scallops, shrimps, squid, cod and an octopus fishcake skewer. This dish is exclusive to this main store. All of us paired our dishes with 150g of rice. The rice was mixed with turmeric and oat, served with a lemon wedge to cut through the heaviness of the curry soup. . The resto is immensely popular and often has a long queue. We were very lucky that day, waiting only around 30 mins despite the snowy weather. . It is located in a basement and has a rustic wooden interior with an early American vibe, decorated with US-themed items like Snoopy. . To get a table, head to the entrance to issue a numbered ticket from the kiosk, which features a QR code for real-time queue tracking on your phone. This allows you to explore the nearby Tanukikoji Shopping Street freely until your number is called, at which point you return for a final short wait in the stairwell before being seated.

The broth is very savory with a nice hint of sweetness. The spices give it great flavor without being too strong. The fresh local vegetables are the star of the dish. You get big pieces of carrots, potatoes, and lotus root that are cooked perfectly soft. The best part is the fried broccoli. The crispy edges soak up the soup and taste incredible. Pair your curry with their famous chicken thigh—the meat is so soft it falls right off the bone. It comes with a side of yellow turmeric rice. It is a warm, filling, and delicious meal. Try adding a slice of melted cheese on your rice for even more flavor!

An unforgettable experience with Soup Curry! As we were unfamiliar with the dish, we had "preconceived notions" about curry being a soup. Would it be too overpowering, or best eaten as a roux? Garaku blew our minds away with how the flavors were balanced - curry soup, yes, but the flavors were in harmony as they blended well together. The rice dipped in the soup was an experience, and the chicken was so tender and flavorful. Our favorite was surpsingly the broccoli! It was the best, sweet roasted broccoli we've ever had. Highly recommended! I dream of this curry soup!

Garaku is a Sapporo staple! We arrived 10 minutes before the 17:00 opening and a queue was already forming. Upon entering, the entire staff gives you a wonderful, warm welcome. Surprisingly, the restaurant is quite peaceful; everyone eats quietly, which makes for a very relaxed meal. Ordering via tablet is efficient, and the food arrived quickly. The classic slow-cooked chicken was fall-off-the-bone tender. I loved customizing my spice level and rice—the torched cheese topping is a total must! Pro tip: Be sure to select the paper apron on the tablet to keep your clothes splash-free.
