It was incredibly enjoyable. I visited as one stop on a walk tracing the history of Hokkaido's settlement, using a Donichika ticket, a 1-day unlimited subway pass you can buy on the Sapporo municipal subway. The day before, I read the story of the Shiroishi domain samurai who came from Sendai to settle Hokkaido (available free on the Shiroishi Ward website), and thought, “But how did they actually develop the land?” so I was really curious about their tools and such. Learning about the lives and development of the Sendai domain samurai who came on the same ship and then parted ways, and indirectly learning about the Shiroishi people too, was very interesting. The building was clean too. There was also a gymnasium-like hall available to rent, and it was close to the station—a nice building. The exhibit explanations might be somewhat difficult, so it may suit people with some background knowledge or interest. For those who didn't enjoy it, I think city and ward websites have history pages, so learning a little about the settlement beforehand might help things connect and make it fun! I still haven't studied enough and didn't understand many things, so I'd like to learn a little more and visit again.

The opening days are unusual. Museums normally close on Mondays and open on the other days, but this one opens Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday (closed on holidays), so be careful. This is land first cultivated by the people of Shiroishi in the Sendai domain who settled Shiroishi Ward, and historical materials about them are displayed here. Nearby is also the former site of Shijukan, Teine Village's first educational institution. The interior is bright and easy to view, making the materials easy to read. There are plenty of materials, and you can learn about Teine Village. The grounds contain a founding memorial and a Kamiteine Village settlement memorial. Unfortunately the inscriptions can't be read, but they're worth a look.

Admission is free. Agricultural tools, everyday items and other things from the settlement of Teine Village are displayed. There are many taxidermied birds and animals. I think people living nearby could visit once. 2025.10.10.

It's a place where you can learn about the Teine area's history for free and enjoy yourself. The building itself seems to be about 50 years old, so it's almost a historical artifact in its own right. You can see all sorts of interesting things, from the history of Teine Village, Batta-zuka, pottery from the Teine archaeological site and stones from Teine Mine to taxidermied bears and deer. It's great that you can enjoy all this for free. Children might find it boring, though. And the fact that this “Teine Memorial Museum” is in Nishi Ward rather than Teine Ward is interesting too, reflecting Sapporo's complicated history. Miyanosawa in Nishi Ward has this Teine Memorial Museum, Chieria and other facilities, so it might be a surprisingly cultural area.

Teine Memorial Museum is a free, lesser-known small museum for learning about local history. Its collection focuses on the settlement history of Teine Village, displaying agricultural tools, everyday objects and rare documents, even including animal specimens and mining ores, like a time capsule frozen in the Showa era. The building itself has stood for half a century and is also a witness to history. Pay particular attention to opening times—it only opens Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday, and closes on public holidays. The museum is small, with clear, easy-to-understand explanations, suitable for dedicated cultural enthusiasts, though children might find it dull. If you're passing through the Miyanosawa cultural area in Nishi Ward, it's worth stopping by.
