Bought the tickets at the entrance. They gave us an English Map. Highly recommend, you get the map, otherwise, it's kind of lost. Zoo is divided in various sections - each section has a theme. At the beginning, they have huge Eagles and Owls. Though impressive but very hard to click photos of them due to cages. As you move around, can see various animals like rabbits, kangaroo, red Panda, Tiger, Hyena, Lion, Leopard, Giraffe, Elephants ...etc. Sad part was, can't see the polar bears. I guess, it's only available during winters. They also have a reptile section - quite a collection. Zoo is not that big and can be covered in 2-3 hours. Though we went on a weekday, not much crowd but i'm sure during weekend, must be very crowded. Zoo is very clean and have benches to relax. Best for families / people with kids.
View on GoogleIf you're an Australian or been to Australian zoos, steer clear of this place - you'll just get sad. It's cool to see new (to me) animals like the bears and snow leopards, and the staff are all pleasant and kind. I'm an obvious foreigner, and was given an English map of the zoo - I appreciate that, it was helpful. You will need the map to know what you're walking through! There's too much space between the enclosures, and the enclosures are too small. Lots of walking for not much to view. I visited this zoo in November, and many things were closed - no polar bears, for example. If you live in a decent-sized mansion (or Western house), you have more space than a bird of prey does at this zoo. As an Australian, the kangaroo enclosure makes me cry. They need more space and more kangaroos - they are like zebras, they need large groups and lots of space to roam! This zoo clearly has the space, with so much space used to make us walk - the enclosures should be bigger!
View on GoogleI visited in the holiday and it’s really nice and quiet, the environment for the animals are really big and pretty clean. But be ready for the polar animals to be missing if you’re going in summer. Other than that everything is so good, it’s a real harmony between us human and the animals, everyone can go there to enjoy the day with the animals because you can go really close to the animals and get a real good look at them at they can also have a good look at you. But be beware of the noisy monkeys lol.
View on GoogleWorth the visit - kids under junior high entry are for free - adults are 800¥ which is around £4, its 15-20 minutes walk from subway. The walk is absolutely magical through the park and waterfalls in the forest. Tickets are cash only just to note but if you buy online through the QR code at entry or in advance you pay by card. You are allowed to bring snacks/ drinks in and have a picnic or use rest seating areas, which there is plenty. There is multiple cafe/restaurants , a lot of restrooms as well. Its spacious, we went again on May 5th during golden week (1st time was a weekday so it was empty), despite public holiday we enjoyed it everything spread out so you don’t feel busyness. They have polar bear and red panda Big playground as well Worth the visit definitely
View on GoogleAfter visiting Japan many times, this was actually my first time going to a zoo, so I decided to check out Maruyama Zoo. The zoo has quite spacious outdoor areas, though some parts feel a little dated. The indoor enclosures had a strong smell, which made it less comfortable. Perhaps due to the cold weather, many animals seemed quiet and not very active. The polar bear was the main highlight, but it also felt a bit lonely, which left me with mixed feelings. Overall, an interesting experience, though it made me reflect that animals might be happier in their natural environment.
