This was a interesting museum but it was quite small. It’s worth visiting if you plan to also visit the children’s library (museum is locating within). On the plus side they had the most accurate diorama of ancient life. Can be done within 15 minutes or 30 if you take your time.

Very small, free exhibit that contained some archaeological artifacts from the different regional cultures. Cool to see but I am an english speaker and all the descriptions were in Japanese so I wasnt able to learn all the details.

I learned that there were various archaeological sites in 札幌市 too, and there was quite a lot worth seeing. It's also nice that it's open for free, so you can casually stop by.

I'm very interested in the history of my hometown, 札幌. If possible, I'd love to help out with the excavations

Visited on October 7, 2024. It is inside 「札幌市中央図書館」, in front of the 「中央図書館前」 tram stop. Admission is free. The exhibition room occupies one floor. 「N30遺跡出土土偶」 was displayed at the entrance, arranged so that you could see both the front and back. Other exhibits, including pottery excavated from sites around 札幌, are displayed in chronological order from the Jomon through the Satsumon to the Ainu period. Looking at the site map, it seems many Jomon-period sites are on higher ground because of the rise in sea level. The diorama in the center is fun to look at too. Though I don't think there was any indication of which period it depicted.
