Mount Moiwa Ropeway Entrance
This is the boarding station for the "Mt. Moiwa Ropeway" heading to the summit of Mt. Moiwa. To reach the summit observation deck with its panoramic view of Sapporo, take the ropeway from the Base Station to the midway station, then transfer to the mini cable car "Morisu Car". It is also popular as a night view spot in Sapporo, with richly natural scenery by day and a beautiful night view like scattered jewels by night. You can enjoy fresh greenery in spring, the deep green of the primeval forest and a grand panorama in summer, autumn leaves and sunsets in autumn, and the snow-covered cityscape of Sapporo in winter. Autumn colors are usually at their best around mid-October. The ropeway may be suspended due to weather. Please check the official website for the latest information. The Mo…

The Mt. Moiwa Ropeway is more than just a way to get to the summit.. it’s an experience in itself. This is where you board the large cable car that takes you steeply up to the midway station, offering increasingly beautiful views over Sapporo as you climb above the treetops and city skyline. The ropeway is an impressive feat of engineering, and the smooth ride makes it easy to appreciate both the surrounding mountains and the city below. If you prefer, you can also drive to the midway station and pay a lower fare for the final leg, but taking the ropeway from the base is definitely the more memorable experience. The facilities are clean, efficient, and very well organized, with staff keeping everything running smoothly. The only downside is that during busy periods they try to maximise capacity by fitting as many passengers as possible into each cable car, so it can feel quite cramped. Overall, it’s a well run attraction and a scenic start to one of Sapporo’s most iconic viewpoints. Even before you reach the summit, the ride itself is worth experiencing.
View on GoogleGood place to see the entire city. Free shuttle bus pickup up and down the entrance. Limited capacity but it's only a short 5 mins ride. You can actually walk up to the entrance yourself. The place gets crowded at night so I left as soon as the sky is dark after seeing the city In the late afternoon to dusk.
View on GooglePretty organized. Great scenery. Went during the day as the kids may be too short to witness the sunset in a crowd. Highlight was a crow dropped a gift near us at the entrance and a pretty substantial one that the kids saw it. Thank goodness no one was affected.
View on GoogleThe night view of Sapporo from Mount Moiwa Ropeway is simply breathtaking! ✨ I loved seeing the city lights twinkling below. 🌃 It's an absolutely fantastic experience! 😍 Highly recommend it for an unforgettable evening. 💖
View on GoogleIt’s very accessible. We just rode the tram back and forth from Tanukikoji. Free shuttle is provided. It was our first time riding a ropeway during night time and it’s very cool. It’s nice to see Sapporo lights from the top. I originally just wanted to ride the tram and went for a little adventure and ended up at Mt Moiwa. 😆 I got frostnip for not wearing my gloves while we were taking photos at the top. So, don’t forget to bring your proper attire. 😅 It was very windy and cold.
