I was looking for a place I'd like near my destination for lunch and found it on Google Maps. Its retro, historic look felt promising, so I gave it a try. I couldn't see a parking lot, so I asked at the shop and was told to park in front of the apartment building right next door, but whether it's normally OK to park there remains a mystery lol Taste-wise, for everyday Chinese food it gets a top passing grade. I went in around 2 pm, and the lunch customers' plates were still left on almost every table. But! It's so delicious that it didn't matter at all. The volume is full marks too! It makes you imagine it was packed with hungry manual-labor types. There are a fair number of manga and magazines, so coming in alone seems fine too. The menu lineup is solid too, with ramen sets, fried rice sets, slightly smaller options for women and so on — enough to make you agonize over what to order. This is a place you can't visit just once. It's run by two older guys, both friendly and pleasant. Going to see this duo might be fun too. For me it was a top passing grade! Do give it a try.

First visit after seeing it in a machi-chūka (neighborhood Chinese) magazine. From the outside it's a long-established neighborhood Chinese place ♪ The menu is huge, and I went with a set meal! The mapo tofu was authentic with heat that kicks in afterwards, delicious! The sweet and sour pork in the subuta set also had just the right sweet-spicy balance and perfect cooking, insanely good (*^^*) I could tell that everything here is delicious ♪ The staff were super kind too, I want to come again! Thanks for the meal ☆

I went to a place I'd been curious about. The menu is so extensive it's hard to choose, but I had Lunch ②: sweet and sour pork, chili shrimp, fried rice, soup and salad for 1,250 yen. The sweet and sour pork was on the sweet side for me, but there was lots of pork and vegetables, nicely balanced and tasty. The chili shrimp and fried rice were generous and lightly seasoned, and the whole lunch came together as one dish. At the end there was complimentary daigaku imo, which was also great. Next time I'd like to try the noodles. On my third visit I had the new menu item, half ramen + kakuni don set for 850 yen. The miso ramen was rich, with menma, bean sprouts and substantial chashu, delicious. Even as a half it was generous. The kakuni don is a katsudon with the katsu swapped for kakuni; the kakuni was tender yet you could really feel the meat, this bowl is a winner. I tried hard but couldn't finish, my apologies to the owner. I took the daigaku imo home, and my wife ate it saying it was delicious. A delicious place with the best value for money.

Set No. 4, 1050 yen The lunch sets seem to be weekdays only, so there were only sets over 1000 yen. They seem to do delivery too and looked busy, but at Sunday lunchtime there were only 3 groups of customers. Smoking allowed. The mains were oyster-sauce stir-fried chicken and chili shrimp. Authentic flavor and generous portions, reasonable even at over 1000 yen. The chili shrimp in particular was spicy, rich and tasty. As a freebie for the delay, there was also daigaku imo? Fried crispy but soft inside. The taste is good, but service is shockingly slow (though there was a freebie). There were few customers yet I waited nearly 40 minutes, so at lunchtime that's...

A long-established machi-chūka in Sakaemachi, Higashi-ku 👍 Amid soaring prices, the set menus are offered at really bargain prices. (Or rather, this area is a Chinese-food battleground) We, a hungry silly parent and kid, ended up going wild ordering à la carte dishes. Ordered gomoku ankake yakisoba, mapo tofu, chili shrimp and boiled gyoza. The place is a bit grubby, but the taste is 👍 The way the ingredients in the ankake yakisoba are cooked is spot on! The mapo tofu isn't very numbing or spicy, but it's the quintessential mapo tofu that goes great with rice. I figured the boiled gyoza would come in a small bowl with vinegar soy sauce… But it was a ramen bowl with huge gyoza, chunky ingredients, like a slightly diluted shio ramen, a "here's a full bowl, one serving!" amount! The old guy and old lady really overdid it. The finishing blow: "complimentary daigaku imo" That was what I was most looking forward to (actually my second visit), but I had to take it home 💦 Beware of over-ordering! Also, in winter it's pretty cold inside, so you're better off on the raised koagari seating.
