Date of visit: 30 Apr 2023 Time : 11 am We were there at opening time 11 am so we could just park right in front. It’s a small eatery with 2 tatami tables and 2 rectangular tables. It’s run by an elderly woman. Despite the language barrier, she is very warm and welcoming. She even showed her udon pictures on her phone to help us. We ordered her signature dish egg udon and deep fried asparagus udon. On her daily menu she offers 5 types of udon. The egg udon is indeed original. Good 👍! For every table she also served a set of 3 pickles and some seasoning paste for the rice. Very good value for money !
View on GoogleI came for a weekday lunch. It was obanzai day, and the system was to help yourself from plates piled with many kinds of obanzai. Gentle, vegetable-focused seasoning, and everything was delicious. It also came with piping-hot, tasty udon, so I left with a full stomach.
View on GoogleWhen we walked in there were zero customers. When I said we were 5 people, they made a face (3 kids (11, 8 and 4 years old) and 2 adults). Seeing our 4-year-old crying a little, they said "Ah no no no no, no small kids, my boss will tell me off too." Apparently even if the child stops crying, it's still a no! It's a shame that families with kids apparently can't eat here.
View on GoogleMy second visit today, near the site I'm working at now. The thing is, I came here for the first time yesterday, but when I checked Google afterwards, it was their regular day off 😅 No wonder there was no noren curtain and the door was only half open… When I came today I said "Sorry ma'am, you were closed yesterday, weren't you," and she said "It's fine, if someone comes in while I'm prepping, I serve them," which was a relief. On the first day I had the tamatoro hiya-atsu. The udon was good, but the sanshōzuke served as a side for the rice was sooo good 😍 It's all handmade by the lady, and apparently lots of regulars come for it. I figured I could eat any number of bowls of rice with it, so today I had the tororo chikuwa ten and a large rice for 100 yen extra 😄 But still, not enough rice 😅 Tomorrow is obanzai day 😄 Apparently Tuesdays and Fridays are obanzai days, where you can enjoy all kinds of side dishes 😄 Can't wait for tomorrow 😄
View on GoogleNot bad at all. Grandma's home cooking is just plain good. And with this volume, plus being able to nibble on sides for the rice, today's daily special is 700 yen. That's got to be 5 stars. Both the toppings on the cold udon and the side bowls had a really spot-on pairing of the main ingredient's flavor with the condiments. You can feel the good taste—I kind of fell for it. As for service, I'll turn a blind eye. It's average. Next time I'm nearby, I'll make a point of coming here to eat.
