One of the great taste Unagi-don, Hitsumabushi is also available in the menu. Small local restaurant and taked time to wait for the serve. Inside decoration looks classic Japanese retro atmosphere, which is good anyway. In addition, the price is relatively good too, not expensive at all. Try once, if you have time.

If you’re in Sapporo and love eel, Kadoya is an absolute must-visit! It was clear this is a local favourite, every time we walked by, there were always locals waiting for a table. I tried both the Unaju and Hitsumabushi, and both were outstanding! The eel was flawlessly grilled, crispy on the outside and tender and juicy inside. Portions are generous, presentation is elegant, and the quality rivals top Tokyo spots, but at a much better price.

Unagi has tons of fine bones, which is expected, but grilling it long enough will soften the bones to make it edible. But, when mine came the color of the unagi is too light without much charring. True enough when I bit into the unagi, the bones are all stuck in my mouth. The sauce wasnt great too. Medicare at best. I couldn't finish the unagi because of the bones. Due to language barrier, the staff couldn't understand what I was telling them about the bones. There are much better unagi elsewhere.

Firstly the atmosphere and design of the place feels very traditional and it was in a great location right in the middle of the city. You get a refreshing and hot green tea (Ocha) when seated while you wait for your meal. I ordered the Unagu set which is the eel over rice in the traditional box, it was absolutely lovely and decently priced. I also ordered a serving of the house hot sake to pair with my meal. I'll definitely be coming back here.

I went with a friend as this restaurant was recommended to try Unagi. The restaurant is very busy and crowded when we went around 6pm on a Thursday. There were many tourists there. You need to get a number from the machine and then wait outside or inside until your number is called out. It took them some time to hand out our order, but it wasn't a long delay. But the staff did forget our beer order and we had to ask them again. The Unagi was good and the price was also cheaper than I expected.
