【Kenshō-gayu (Kenshō porridge), drinks, local products.】 As a porridge specialty shop, we serve porridge (Kenshō-gayu) carefully cooked with new rice from Hokkaido. Wishing for everyone's health, we also have "yakuzen" (medicinal cuisine) porridge with natural herbal ingredients added. Drinks include Hokkaido-grown teas (agricultural teas such as tartary buckwheat tea and burdock tea), apple juice made with 100% apples from Yoichi Town, and corn potage from Takinoue Town. In the retail area, we introduce local products (food, craft items, skincare products, and more) made by manufacturers across Hokkaido. We hope to provide a place where more people can learn about wonderful Hokkaido products…

Full of choices of Japanese sweetie and biscuits, the quaint little shop beckoned visitors with its vibrant displays. Each treat was crafted with precision, showcasing the artistry of traditional Japanese confectionery. As customers sampled the delicate flavors, they were transported to a world where sweetness and culture intertwined. The warm atmosphere, filled with the scent of freshly made treats, made it impossible to leave without a few delightful souvenirs.

2026.8 Speaking of Shirashika (white deer), according to mythology, Takemikazuchi no Mikoto is said to have traveled from present-day Ibaraki to Kasuga Taisha in Nara riding a white deer. Also, the white deer is considered a symbol of longevity and good fortune; might that be the origin of the shop's name? Porridge is associated with health, such as when you catch a cold or nanakusa-gayu, and today I ate it mixed with salted salmon and umeboshi, and it was delicious. Since it's summer here, about 3 pieces of dashi frozen to the size of ping-pong balls were served alongside. It's apparently for use when it's hot, and it reminded me of Miyazaki's specialty "hiya-jiru." Summer is hot, so accepting that and seeking coolness through food and atmosphere is also Japanese and good. Looking at the shikishi (signed boards), it seems Abe Akie also came here this year.

A place to eat porridge. Here they provide dashi (broth) ice cubes; if you find the porridge too hot, you can put the ice cubes in to cool the porridge down without it being diluted. The toppings are on the salty side, presumably to be eaten together with the porridge. The corn potage is very thick, and it feels like whole ears of corn were condensed into this potage.
